This time of year, my combo skin goes from combo-dry to combo-oily. While my skin does seem to have more natural oil this time of year, it still needs moisture. However, I don't want to add heavy moisturizers. Instead, I like to give my skin that extra boost of hydration with a hyaluronic acid serum or gel moisturizer and the addition of a Hydrating Mist. This Fruit Enzyme Hydrating Mist from MyChelle is an awesome extra step after cleansing and before moisturizer or sunscreen. Plus, it is so refreshing and soothing to use!

How I Use:

In the mornings, I apply the MyChelle Fruit Enzyme Hydrating Mist immediately after cleansing my face and before applying my MyChelle Sun Shield SPF 28 Unscented (my current Holy Grail Facial Suncreen-I love it!!!). In the evenings, I like to use this amazing mist after cleansing my face and before application of moisturizers or treatment products. To use, I just spray onto my hands and then gently pat onto my face. You could also spray this directly on your face. However, for some reason, I always like to apply sprays with the hand-pat method. 

This product can also be used as a setting spray or as a mid-day skin refresher for a boost of moisture or hydration. It is just one of those products that gives that extra boost to your skin that makes a difference in how your skin looks and feels.

Guinot’s new Sun Logic available in SPF 20 and SPF 30 is an anti-aging sunscreen that protects the skin not only from harmful UVA and UVB rays, but also from blue light rays (such as TVs, computers, and mobile phones). Most people don't even realize that blue light-induced damage is even happening! I know that I honestly wasn't fully aware of that. So, this product is great for keeping skin safe both inside and when outside at the pool or beach or just in the backyard. 

This product combines anti-aging ingredients (extracted from witch hazel leaf) with broad-spectrum sun protection to fight the effects of photo-aging by preventing sunburns and preserving the skin. Melanin in the cream (derived from vegetables) absorbs blue light from electronic devices to protect against the light-induced skin damage that most people don’t even realize is happening.

For use: Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes prior to sun exposure. It takes skin about 15 minutes to absorb the sunscreen. It is recommended to apply sunscreen at least every two hours (but reapply immediately after being in the water or after excessive sweating).

• Solar Filters: Consists of UVA and UVB filters (broad spectrum)
• Vegetal DNA: Contains wheat and seaweed and protects skin against outside aggressors. It absorbs the harmful effects of the UV rays to protect skin cells from damage.
• Elastoprotectin: Extracted from Hamamelis leaves (witch hazel leaf), which helps prevent breakdown of tissues, elastoprotectin is a protein that protects elastin fibers to help prevent wrinkles and skin slackening. It protects from photo-aging and sunburn and uses arnica to protect elastin and superficial skin layers.
• Melanin: Derived from vegetables, melanin absorbs the blue light that we are exposed to from electronic devices. It naturally contains Lutiene, an ingredient known to protect the skin from blue light and against light-induced skin damage. It helps fight premature aging from free radicals and the sun.

My Skin:
Before diving into my review, lets chat a bit more about my skin. My skin is Combination (leaning more towards Combo/Oily) with some dry patches from active treatment products (just started with Rx retinods). My skin is a bit on the sensitive side. So, I am always seeking products that are effective without irritation. I am also somewhat prone to breakouts.

Derma-E Skin Restore Collection: 
This Peptide and Collagen-based skincare collection is designed to help fight the signs. The collection includes a moisturizer, a serum, and an eye cream. Lets chat more about each one! Apparently the moisturizer in this collection used to be named Deep Wrinkle Moisturizer. Well, that product has been improved and reformulated (and renamed). While I have never tried the latter to compare, these new products are winners for me!

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer:
This hydrating formula is packed with beneficial active ingredients. Lets talk about a few of them! The formula includes Matrixyl synthe’6 (May help support collagen for healthy-looking tone and texture) and Argireline (softens skin and smoothes fine lines). Other actives include Vitamin C and Green Tea for antioxidant protection.

I have done a bit of side research on Matrixyl synthe'6 and I am excited to encorporate it into my skincare as it does seem to really have some benefits!

I really enjoy the non-greasy feel of this moisturizer. It feels like, sinks right in, and leaves my skin feeling soft and plump. Plus, I am so happy that it does not irritate my sometimes sensitive skin.

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Serum:
This serum has the same active ingredients as the moisturizer: Matrixyl synthe'6 and Argireline. I like to layer this product on first and then apply the moisturizer on top.

I really enjoy the soothing gel/serum feel of this product. It smooths onto the skin beautifully and sinks in and dries down within a few minutes. I also really like the subtle lavendar scent to the product. I do believe this scent is from lavendar essential oil (as "natural fragrance oils" are included in ingredients).

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Eye Cream:
This eye cream works wonderfully to hydrate the eye area in order to smooth out fine lines. Like the other products in this line, this peptide infused cream also contains Matrixyl synth'6 and Argireline.

This eye cream is super gentle on my sensitive skin. It really does sink in nicely and it works to smooth out my fine lines.

So, is the Derma-E Skin Restore Collection "nature's botox"? Well, I can't quite tell you specifically since I have never had botox and do not have any major wrinkles yet. However, I can tell you that these products are fantastic. They are very hydrating and work to smooth out my fine lines. Plus, I trust that the active ingredients really are beneficial for my skin. To Use:
Apply a thin layer in the mornings and evenings after cleansing. I use about 1 pump's worth for my whole face. This product should be the last step in your routine. Depending on your skin type, you might need a moisturizer with this product. My skin is combo skin (currently leaning towards combo-oily). So, I do not need an additional moisturizer with this product now. However, since I am introducing Retinol into my skincare rouine, I like layering it over an additional moisturizer to keep my skin calm (and to reduce the potential for irriation). As the weather gets colder, I will likely need to switch up to a heavier moisturizer with this product.

My Results:
For this review, I am giving my first-impressions only as I have only had the opportunity to try out this product for a short period of time (A couple weeks: a short period. So, I would not consider this a "full" review, just my first impressions). I do like this product! I like the lightweight feel. This product seems to leave my skin looking and feeling smoother and I feel that I do see a very slight improvement in my pores. Also, my skin is sensitive. However, I have not had any adverse reactions to the Retinol. I know that using Retinol can be tricky and there are some Retinol formulas that are too harsh for my skin. My skin seems to tolerate the StriVectin. I am modifying how I use it. I am applying at night only and when I do I apply over a moisturizer. I have had no sensitivity reactions with this product and have not had any breakouts during product testing. So, that is a plus!

If you are looking to add a Retinol product into your routine to help you with keeping your pores clear and minimized, then you might want to consider this NEW StriVectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner! It is pricey at about $100 per tube. However, you know that you are getting a well-researched and effective product that can last you a long time (it only takes a small amount per application).

Everyone's skin is unique. Everyone's skin tells a story. Today I want to share my Skin Story. My skin has specific needs and I have goals for what I would like my skincare to do for my skin. Finding the right products for your skin is key! Actually, finding the perfect products for my skin is the driving force behind why I am a beauty blogger. 

My Skin Story:

Finding the right products for my skin is an ongoing process. My skin's needs are constantly changing and evolving. Not only do I have the transient needs of classic combo skin, but also I am dealing with the issue of sensitive skin. Plus, like everyone, I am getting older. Skincare that I used in my 20s is just not going to cut it in my 30s and now my 40s. To determine my current skincare needs, I need to evaluate my skin at the current moment and go from there. In general, I have the profile of classic combo skin: normal-dry in the colder months and normal-oily in the warm months of the year. I am in my early 40s. So, I am trying to prevent aging as well as fighting those early signs of aging like fine lines, loss of radiance, and some uneven skin tone. Plus, I have a trouble area: my eye area. 

My Eye Area:

If I were to pin point my biggest skincare concern/area, I would say it is my eye area. First of all my eyes themselves super sensitive. They are prone to tearing which creates a dilemma for eye products and eye makeup (can we say smudgy mascara people?). Between allergies and sensitivity to light, I am always battling my watery eyes. In addition, the skin surrounding my eye, my general eye area is extremely sensitive and delicate. Often serious anti-aging products with powerhouse ingredients wreak havoc on this sensitive area. Last, but not least, I have extremely dark under eye circles. I mean, I am talking about the kind of dark circles that actually look like I have black eyes. It really is my biggest beauty dilemma! Not only do I have a general lack of sleep (2 kids under 3 and an old dog that keep me up at night), but also I have allergies (this brings redness to the area) and hereditary dark circles, too. What can I say, good eye cream and a high coverage concealer are my beauty best friends, lol! As far as aging of the eye area, I am pretty lucky so far. My only sign of aging in the eye area are some fine lines. These are more apparent when my skin is dehydrated. Occasionally, I have eye puffiness as well.

Since my trouble area is my eye area, I am focusing this review on the L’Oréal RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment. However, I am also including some information (below) on the RevitaLift™ Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer.

L’Oréal RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment: How I Use and My Results:
What a lovely addition to my skincare routine! This eye cream has worked wonders for my tired eyes. First of all, this eye cream is extremely gentle. I really appreciate that this is a product that is formulated with anti-aging ingredients; yet, it is gentle to the eyes and eye area. Anti-aging skincare does not have to be irritating to work, ya'll. So, I would describe this eye cream as gentle-yet-effective.

I apply L’Oréal RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment to my entire eye area (under eyes and on lids) twice a day (morning and evening) after washing my face. I just squeeze a little bit out onto the silver cooling applicator tip and then use the applicator tip to smooth it on. After using the cooling applicator tip, I then take my finger to lightly press and tap the eye cream into my eye area. I like the creamy-yet-non-greasy feel of this eye treatment cream/serum. It absorbs quickly and provides a nice base for makeup application. This is a key factor for me. Since my dark circles are so dark, I need a very hydrating base for my high-coverage concealers.

I feel that consistent use of this product has plumped up my skin around my eyes and has made my fine lines less apparent. I have also noticed how smoothed out my eyelids are! They look less "crepey" and more healthy. I find that eyeshadow and eye liner apply more smoothly. Also, my dark circles have ever-so-slightly improved their appearance. I will take any benefit that I can get in this area. So, I am very pleased! I love using this gentle-yet-effective L’Oréal RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment! I actually look forward to the soothing feel of that cooling tip every time I am just about to apply it!

The 2015 Wrinkle Ranking Stucy: How Does your State Rank? 

Location is everything when it comes to choosing the right neighborhood, apartment or family home, but did you know that the state you choose to live in could contribute to the development of wrinkles? Recently, RoC® Skincare revealed the results of the 2015 Wrinkle Ranking study and Georgia (my home state) is #27! This is so interesting!

In partnership with Sperling’s Best Places, Wrinkle Ranking helps Americans read between their fine lines and wrinkles by exposing the less obvious, state-specific factors that contribute to aging skin.

So, why did Georgia have a median rank of #27?

• Humidity keeps skin moist
• Low rate of skin cancer
• High levels of pollution
• Lengthy commutes and long workdays

Looking at these results, I definitely find that they all are true for Georgia. The pollution and long commutes are certainly a contrast to other areas of the country. However, with Georgia's median rank, we certainly are not the worst. I am really happy to hear that there is a low rate of skin cancer. This is actually a bit of a surprise to me. However, that might just be because skin cancer has personally affected me since my Dad has it (Basal Cell Carcinomas that are removed practically monthly) and I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma. I certainly agree that the humidity does great things for your skin! Next time I am complaining about how humid it is and how it is frizzing my hair, lol, I will need to remember the benefits for my skin! Hey, I would rather deal with some humidity than having to deal with extremely dry air that leaves you feeling parched.

My Skin Loves: Algenist's Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream and Eye Cream

It is time for another update in my "My Skin Loves" blog series! As many of you know, I reserve the "My Skin Loves" series for my reviews of my latest and greatest skincare favorites. Believe me, I test out a lot of skincare. With this series, I share with you the best-of-the-best: my ulitmate skincare favorites that "My Skin Loves"! :) 

Over the past few weeks, I have been testing out Algenist's *amazing* Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream and Ultimate Anti-Aging Eye Cream. I have had my eye on these products from Algenist for over a year. So, I am super excited that I was finally able to try them out. Algenist is one of my hands-down favorite brands (seriously, it is in my top 5 skincare brands of all time!). Many Algenist products are Holy Grail/daily use items for me: Algenist's Regenerative Anti Aging Moisturizer with SPF 20 (I am completely obsessed with this daily lotion!) and Algenist's Overnight Restorative Cream (this night cream is amazing! It has the perfect texture!).

Before diving into my review of the Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream and Eye Cream, lets talk a bit more about Alguronic Acid (The key ingredient in Algenist products). I bet some of you are scratching your head thinking "what the heck is Alguronic Acid?"...

So, what is Alguronic Acid and what does it do?

My Skin Loves: ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream

It is time for a "My Skin Loves" update! This is my blog series where I share the skincare products that my skin truly loves. As a beauty blogger, I try out a lot of skincare products. Not just because I want to review them, but really because I am somewhat obsessed with skincare. That is how I stumbled into blogging in the first place. I was constantly on the search for the latest and greatest skincare. As someone who has sensitive and somewhat temperamental combination skin, finding the right skincare for my skin is of the utmost importance. I really do get a thrill when I find products that make a huge difference with my skin. That is how I feel about this amazing award-winning moisturizer from ReVive!

My Skin:
As I mentioned, I have sensitive combination skin. I just turned 40 a couple months ago. So, I am super concerned with age prevention. I have a few fine lines/expression lines. However, they are really only noticeable when my skin gets a little dehydrated. People always think that I am much younger than I really am...I attribute that to my years of using good skincare and sun protection! I hope to continue looking and feeling this young. So, my search for amazing skincare products continues! :) Like many people with combo skin, I am normal-oily in the warmer months and normal-dry in the colder months. I do not break out often. However, when I do, it is usually on my chin area. With that said, I do go through phases of breakouts which I attribute to my hormonal fluctuations (I just had a baby 8 months ago and my hormones are still a bit wacky). In addition to the stray pimple or breakout, I also get general "congestion" on my chin (clogged pores and such). So, yes, I am dealing with both anti-aging concerns and the occasional breakouts.
