It is that time of year again...time to embrace your SPF protection! Yes, you should use SPF products all day and every day all year long. However, it is of the utmost importance to stick to this routine in the Spring and Summer when you are outdoors more because of the nice weather. Plus, you are wearing shorter sleeves and lightweight materials. So, SPF application (and seeking shade when possible) is super important. With my family's history of skin cancer and losing a friend to Melanoma, I just don't mess around when it comes to sun protection. I protect myself and my familiy no matter what! So, I am always looking for great SPF protection that is gentle with elegant formulas that I am going to enjoy applying.

Recently, I have been using the MyChelle Sun Shield Unscented SPF 28 and the MyChelle Sun Stick SPF 50. These are both great options for SPF protection. So, let's talk about them.

Here are some details about each product from MyChelle:

Sun Shield Unscented SPF 28:

This is an antioxidant-rich unscented mineral-based SPF daytime lotion for the face. I have a strong preferance for mineral sunscreens and I always particularly like the ones that are a combination of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. This formula contains both. Also, it contains other nourishing ingredients like Aloe and Vitamin E to soothe the face and reduce signs of irriation while protecting the skin from the sun. I like that this daily SPF feels lightweight and absorbs quickly to leave a smooth, clear, and matte finish. 

Key Active Ingredients:

• Titanium Dioxide 0.67%–PhysicallyshieldstheskinfromUV exposure, disperses damaging UV rays to limit photo aging, and creates an occlusive barrier.
• Zinc Oxide (ZinClearTM) 11.6% – A non-opaque Zinc Oxide that provides natural protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
• Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder – Assists in pain relief, reduces inflammation, rehydrates, and improves the skin’s natural UV absorption capabilities

To Use: I apply this in the mornings after washing my face, toning, and spot treating breakouts. Sometimes I use it on its own and sometimes I mix with a tinted sunscreen for some coverage. 

MyChelle Sun Stick SPF 50:

This tinted, mineral-based sunscreen provides powerful UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection and glides on smoothly with just enough color to enhance any skin tone. Avocado, Jojoba and Vitamin E Oils help moisturize and protect skin. Perfect for on the go—it won’t sweat off and has a light natural scent.

I love having a sunscreen stick on hand. I use this more to "spot apply" for reapplication as it is hard to get good allover coverage with any stick. This is perfect for my nose! Plus, I like the tint. 

I am a big believer in wearing sunscreen *daily* and reapplying throughout the day. We must protect ourselves from the sun. Prevention is the key!

As I have mentioned before, SPF protection is not just for Summer! As we transition into Fall weather and Fall temps, we can't stop wearing SPF protection. While I like all of these new products from the Australian Gold Botanical line, the Face Sunscreen SPF 50 is a real stand-out for me. My skin always does the best with mineral-based sunscreens. So, this particular formula really agrees with me. The SPF 50 is fantastic protection for days spent outdoors and the tint of the formula is somewhat perfecting on my skin. I am super pleased with this for the face!!!

My Dad has had countless basal cell carcinomas removed. I inherited his fair skin that is very prone to burning. So, I know that I am at risk for skin cancer, too. Also, I lost a very dear friend to Melanoma a few years ago. She was only 30 and spent her sunny summers at the lake. Because of my Dad and my friend, I get annual skin cancer screenings and I am very diligent about sunscreen application. Skin Cancer is preventable. We must protect ourselves with suitable SPF and practice overall sun safety by seeking shade, avoiding peak times in the sun, and wearing hats. The great news is that there are fantastic sunscreen options available right at your local drugstore from Neutrogena. ! 

For my family, daily use of sunscreen is just part of our routine. I apply products containing SPF in the mornings right after my shower to all areas that will be exposed...no matter what my plans are for the day, I know that I have a layer of SPF every day. If I am outdoors, I apply an additional layer as needed. For my kids, applying SPF before going out to play is just part of their routine. They inherited my fair skin and are also prone to burning if not protected. I also have taught them to seek shade when they can and thankfully they like wearing hats!

We can protect ourselves from skin cancer by using daily sun protection (reguardless of the weather or our daily plans) and practicing overall sun safety. We can do this not only for ourselves, but for our whole family!

Why is sun safety important to you?

Sun safety was always ingrained in me. My mother was ahead of the game in sun protection and making us wear sunscreen at a time when there really wasn’t the awareness there is today. If we were in the sun, we were always protected. Skin cancer runs in my family, my father has it, so for me it’s something that is very important to me especially since it’s the most preventable form of cancer. Also, sunscreen also prevents fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots and keeps your skin looking great.

How do you fit sunscreen into your beauty routine?

People always ask me what my top beauty tips are and I always say sunscreen and water, so it’s easy to fit sunscreen into my beauty routine. Also, all of my makeup has sunscreen in it, but I always do double duty! You need to apply a sunscreen first and then apply your makeup with SPF.

Do you wear sunscreen every day?

I apply sunscreen every day. People think if it’s cloudy out you don’t have to apply sunscreen, but that is just not true and when the biggest mistakes happen. I also apply it to my kids every day. The minute they get up before they put their clothes on, we put on sunscreen. It’s a routine, just like brushing their teeth. I also think it’s important to lead by example. Not only do they see me applying it on them, but they see me applying it to myself.

I tried to pick out sunscreens across a few sunscreen categories: Sunscreens for Face, Spray Sunscreens, Tinted Sunscreens, Sunscreens for Kids, Waterproof Sunscreens, newly released Sunscreens, and even Sunscreen with Bug Repellent! 

I don't mess around when it comes to sun protection. Daily use of an SPF is a MUST for me. I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma and my Dad constantly battles Carcinomas. I have inherited my Father's fair skin, so I really need to be sure that I am protected in the Sun. Plus, I love being outdoors. I literally slather sunscreen on every morning on every body part that I know will be exposed to the sun. For days that I am going to be at the pool, I rely on waterproof Sunscreens. I am constantly switching up my sunscreen depending on what I am doing that day and what I need. This list focuses on my current rotation of Sunscreens and ones that I am really enjoying right now! :) 

Top Ten Tuesdays: My Sunscreen Arsenal
Here are some of my favorite, across a variety of Sunscreen categories, in my vast SPF Arsenal. You will see quite a variety here: from high end brands to drugstore favorites, spray sunscreens to classic lotions, and even face sunscreens and sunscreens for babies and kids! I like having a variety of formulas on hand depending on what I am doing and the type of protection that I need. 

• COOLA | Classic Face Sunscreen SPF 30: Non-greasy with sheer application and an awesome cucumber scent!

• Kate Somerville | Daily Deflector Moisturizer Anti-Aging Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20: I adore Kate Somerville skincare and this facial sunscreen is fabulous. With the SPF of only 20, this is used as a daily moisturizer for days that I am not getting direct exposure. It does triple duty by providing anti-aging protection, while moisturizing, and fighting environmental damage. Plus, it has light-diffusing pigments to blur fine lines and perfect your skin. Yes, please! 

• RoC® | MULTI CORREXION® 5 In 1 Daily Moisturizer With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30: This is an anti-aging facial moisturizer with sunscreen. It is one of my very favorite daily moisturizers with SPF! I come back to this one time and time again when I am in-between product testing for the blog. I love how this product feels on my skin. Plus, I am getting anti-aging benefits with the SPF!

• Neutrogena | Wet Skin Sunscreen SPF 50: When I am going to be at the beach or pool and know that I will primarily be in the water, I rely on a sunscreen made to work on wet skin! This spray is swim, humidity, and sweat resistant. This one is also great for reapplying on wet skin as it still applies full strength even if it is applied to wet skin. So, sometimes I might start off with a lotion sunscreen before leaving the house but use this for reapplication while at the pool. 

• Australian Gold | Sheer Coverage Continuous Spray SPF 15 Sunscreen: I love using this continuous spray SPF from Australian Gold. It has the signature Australian Gold scent which I have really grown to love! Plus, the spray is super easy to use and the product feels lightweight and non-sticky.

• Australian Gold | Lotion Sunscreen SPF 15 with Instant Bronzer: OMG! I love this stuff! First, it smells amazing and 2nd it provides a beautiful bronze glow on your skin. While I embrace being fair, I do especially love a bit of color to my legs. This product is perfect for that! It is my go-to "leg" sunscreen for Summer when my legs are bared in short skirts or shorts. 

• Hawaiian Tropic | Touch of Color Tinted Spray Lotion Sunscreen SPF 15: I have been a fan of Hawaiian Tropic since I was a kid. This new Touch of Color Tinted Spray Sunscreen is a great addition to the line! I love the classic scent and the ease of this spray. Plus, it does give a lovely touch of color! Another great product for your legs! :)

• Aveeno Baby | Natural Protection Lotion Sunscreen with SPF 50: Aveeno is my go-to brand for baby products! My son has eczema and super sensitive skin. So, I rely heavily on Aveeno baby products! I can apply this sunscreen on my baby boy and know that he will be protected and that it won't irritate his sensitive and fair skin. I also use this on my preschool-aged daughter. It is sweat and water resistant. 

• Avon | Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus Expedition Insect Repellent with SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray: What a genius idea! The bug repelling classic Avon Skin-So-Soft formula with an SPF of 30! A perfect combo! I love the outdoors in the Summer...but, unfortunately, the bugs love me, too. I am a mosquito magnet but I don't always want to be slathering on bug repellents with harmful DEET chemicals. So, I am super happy about this Avon Bug Guard Plus! It works amazingly well to keep the GA mosquitos away! I am hooked on this for sunny backyard playtime!

• Palmer's | Cocoa Butter Formula EVENTONE SUNCARE Moisturizing Sunscreen Balm: I have loved Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotions for years! So, I was excited to try out their new line of SPF products. They are all fantastic and I particularly love this Sunscreen Balm. It is such a unique texture for a sunscreen! It is like a body balm but has the added benefit of SPF! Not to mention, it smells amazing and leaves your skin luminous and hydrtated! 

• Osmosis | Shade Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Moisturizer: This is one of my newest additions to my facial sunscreen collection of products. With Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide as the active ingredients, it is a winner for me (for some reason, that is a magical mix of SPFs for my skin). Plus, it contains fractionated coconut oil, which I am a fan of as well. I am exploring a few other products from Osmosis Skincare and must say that I am really becoming a fan of the line!

Makeup Wars: SPF Favorites!!!

It is time for another Makeup War!!! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are discussing their favorite sunscreens! SPF is not only our best anti-aging defense but also a total lifesaver. It is absolutely a product that I use everyday, without fail, on all exposed body parts: face, arms, and hands, etc. 

Lets talk SPF! Summertime is the perfect time to look at your skincare routine to see what types of sun protection you need to add. I am a bit of an admitted SPF-junkie. My skin is super-duper fair. So, not only do I seek out the anti-aging and cancer protection benefits of sunscreen, but also I don't want to get burned! Plus, Skin Cancer runs in my family (My Dad) and I have already lost a very dear friend to Melanoma. So, I honestly do not mess around when it comes to SPF. I inherited my Dad's complexion. So, I know I have an extremely high risk for Skin Cancer because of his Cancer history.

What types of SPF?
My SPF needs change depending upon what "mood" my temperamental combination skin is in, what time of year it is, and what activities I have planned for the day.  Spending the day outdoors? Then I choose a high SPF. At the Pool? I apply something water resistant. Is my skin acting a bit oily? I go with a mattifying sunscreen. You get the idea! :) So, with that said, I have quite an assortment of sunscreens at my disposal and I choose whatever my skin requires.

My Desperately Seeking SPF Sunscreen Review Series continues with these amazing sunscreens from Neova! Ya'll know that I test out a ton of Sunscreens. With my super-duper fair skin, I just need the best sun protection that I can get!

What I am looking for in a Sunscreen:
Besides protection from the sun, I need a sunscreen that does not irritate my skin nor leave me feeling greasy. Not only is my skin very fair and in need of major sun protection, but also my skin is very sensitive. Random ingredients can wreak havoc on my skin and cause irritation. In particular, I have difficulties with sunscreen ingredients. Many sunscreens increase the redness in my skin and make me look blotchy. Also, I want my sunscreen to hydrate my skin and provide a nice base for makeup. Lastly, I need a sunscreen that does not cause nor aggravate breakouts. Yes, this is a tall order for sure!

Despirately Seeking SPF: Soleil Organique SPF 45

As the blazing heat and sun of the Summer continues, so does my Desperately Seeking SPF: Sunscreen Review Series! The sun is still very strong here in GA. We must always (daily) protect ourselves with SPF. Be it my morning walk, or an afternoon at the pool, I always have sunscreen on my body.

Did you know that our Skin is considered to be the body's largest organ? Anything that we put on our body skin can be absorbed into our body. Because of the large surface area of body skin, you can absorb a significant amount of product. Especially with items that you use every day. I am not a chemist nor a doctor, so I can't tell you exact concentrations of absorption. I like to play it safe with sunscreens by using either a trusted brand or using a natural product.

Desperately Seeking SPF: Lubriderm's Daily Moisture Lotion SPF 15

Sun protection is crucial! We all know that Skin Cancer is a killer. The good news? We can take measures to prevent skin cancer by avoiding the direct sun and wearing sun protection. But, what many people forget is that sun protection needs to be worn every day! It can be easy to "forget" sunscreen. So, if it is in your daily body moisturizer, you are always protected.

A great way to add sun protection to your daily routine (without even thinking about it!) is to switch from your regular daily moisturizer to one that has an added SPF! It is just that easy to get your daily dose of SPF!!! A great option is this one by Lubriderm: Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15.

Lubriderm is a brand that I have trusted for years. They have a huge selection of lotions to choose from. Right now, this Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15 is my daily go-to body lotion for all my body parts that get exposed to the sun.

All body parts exposed to the sun? Whatever do I mean? Here is what I do, I apply this Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15 to my neck, upper chest, arms, and legs. All other areas tend to get one of my scented lotions. LOL, I am funny like this! I am really trying to use up some of my lovely-scented Bath and Body products (Lately I am obsessed with Bath and Body Work's Pink Chiffon and Forever Sunshine). So, this way I get to use a lotion with SPF *and* get to use the lotions that carry a scent too! So, if you have a lotion that you really hate to part with, you can still use it! Just use a lotion with SPF where your skin hits the sun!
