My Skin:
Before diving into my review, lets chat a bit more about my skin. My skin is Combination (leaning more towards Combo/Oily) with some dry patches from active treatment products (just started with Rx retinods). My skin is a bit on the sensitive side. So, I am always seeking products that are effective without irritation. I am also somewhat prone to breakouts.

Derma-E Skin Restore Collection: 
This Peptide and Collagen-based skincare collection is designed to help fight the signs. The collection includes a moisturizer, a serum, and an eye cream. Lets chat more about each one! Apparently the moisturizer in this collection used to be named Deep Wrinkle Moisturizer. Well, that product has been improved and reformulated (and renamed). While I have never tried the latter to compare, these new products are winners for me!

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Moisturizer:
This hydrating formula is packed with beneficial active ingredients. Lets talk about a few of them! The formula includes Matrixyl synthe’6 (May help support collagen for healthy-looking tone and texture) and Argireline (softens skin and smoothes fine lines). Other actives include Vitamin C and Green Tea for antioxidant protection.

I have done a bit of side research on Matrixyl synthe'6 and I am excited to encorporate it into my skincare as it does seem to really have some benefits!

I really enjoy the non-greasy feel of this moisturizer. It feels like, sinks right in, and leaves my skin feeling soft and plump. Plus, I am so happy that it does not irritate my sometimes sensitive skin.

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Serum:
This serum has the same active ingredients as the moisturizer: Matrixyl synthe'6 and Argireline. I like to layer this product on first and then apply the moisturizer on top.

I really enjoy the soothing gel/serum feel of this product. It smooths onto the skin beautifully and sinks in and dries down within a few minutes. I also really like the subtle lavendar scent to the product. I do believe this scent is from lavendar essential oil (as "natural fragrance oils" are included in ingredients).

Derma-E Advanced Peptides & Collagen Eye Cream:
This eye cream works wonderfully to hydrate the eye area in order to smooth out fine lines. Like the other products in this line, this peptide infused cream also contains Matrixyl synth'6 and Argireline.

This eye cream is super gentle on my sensitive skin. It really does sink in nicely and it works to smooth out my fine lines.

So, is the Derma-E Skin Restore Collection "nature's botox"? Well, I can't quite tell you specifically since I have never had botox and do not have any major wrinkles yet. However, I can tell you that these products are fantastic. They are very hydrating and work to smooth out my fine lines. Plus, I trust that the active ingredients really are beneficial for my skin. The Struggle is Real! Keeping Redness and Irritation at Bay with Paula's Choice CALM:

My Skin:

My skin type is Combination (Normal to Oily) and I am sensitive and prone to redness and irritation. I am somewhat acne-prone. However, I must note that with the right skincare, I can almost completely keep breakouts at bay. But, if I use anything too rich or pore-clogging, the breakouts return. Also, when products irritate me, I don't just get red, I also get irritation bumps that somewhat resemble breakouts on my cheeks. I have often wondered if this is actually boarderline Rosasea. No, I have never been diagnosed with Rosasea, however, I do wonder...My skin is just so prone to redness and irritaion. Not just with products either! Even if I eat spicy foods, go out in the cold, or go running in the heat...guess what? My face turns bright red!

Exfoliation is particularly tricky for me. Great exfoliation keeps breakouts away. However, if I over-do exfoliation or use anything that is either too harsh or abrasive, that will flare up those pesky irritation bumps and redness on my cheeks. Do you know what else is tricky? I am in my early 40s. So, I am particularly interested in anti-aging products. However, effective anti-aging ingredients are often irritating. I want effective anti-aging products with powerhouse ingredients. However, it is not worth irritating my skin. Sigh. It is a vicious cycle and the struggle really is real!

Everyone's skin is unique. Everyone's skin tells a story. Today I want to share my Skin Story. My skin has specific needs and I have goals for what I would like my skincare to do for my skin. Finding the right products for your skin is key! Actually, finding the perfect products for my skin is the driving force behind why I am a beauty blogger. 

My Skin Story:

Finding the right products for my skin is an ongoing process. My skin's needs are constantly changing and evolving. Not only do I have the transient needs of classic combo skin, but also I am dealing with the issue of sensitive skin. Plus, like everyone, I am getting older. Skincare that I used in my 20s is just not going to cut it in my 30s and now my 40s. To determine my current skincare needs, I need to evaluate my skin at the current moment and go from there. In general, I have the profile of classic combo skin: normal-dry in the colder months and normal-oily in the warm months of the year. I am in my early 40s. So, I am trying to prevent aging as well as fighting those early signs of aging like fine lines, loss of radiance, and some uneven skin tone. Plus, I have a trouble area: my eye area. 

My Eye Area:

If I were to pin point my biggest skincare concern/area, I would say it is my eye area. First of all my eyes themselves super sensitive. They are prone to tearing which creates a dilemma for eye products and eye makeup (can we say smudgy mascara people?). Between allergies and sensitivity to light, I am always battling my watery eyes. In addition, the skin surrounding my eye, my general eye area is extremely sensitive and delicate. Often serious anti-aging products with powerhouse ingredients wreak havoc on this sensitive area. Last, but not least, I have extremely dark under eye circles. I mean, I am talking about the kind of dark circles that actually look like I have black eyes. It really is my biggest beauty dilemma! Not only do I have a general lack of sleep (2 kids under 3 and an old dog that keep me up at night), but also I have allergies (this brings redness to the area) and hereditary dark circles, too. What can I say, good eye cream and a high coverage concealer are my beauty best friends, lol! As far as aging of the eye area, I am pretty lucky so far. My only sign of aging in the eye area are some fine lines. These are more apparent when my skin is dehydrated. Occasionally, I have eye puffiness as well.

What a lovely addition to my skincare routine! This eye cream has worked wonders for my tired eyes. First of all, this eye cream is extremely gentle. I really appreciate that this is a product that is formulated with anti-aging ingredients; yet, it is gentle to the eyes and eye area. Anti-aging skincare does not have to be irritating to work, ya'll. So, I would describe this eye cream as gentle-yet-effective.

I apply L’Oréal RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment to my entire eye area (under eyes and on lids) twice a day (morning and evening) after washing my face. I just squeeze a little bit out onto the silver cooling applicator tip and then use the applicator tip to smooth it on. After using the cooling applicator tip, I then take my finger to lightly press and tap the eye cream into my eye area. I like the creamy-yet-non-greasy feel of this eye treatment cream/serum. It absorbs quickly and provides a nice base for makeup application. This is a key factor for me. Since my dark circles are so dark, I need a very hydrating base for my high-coverage concealers.

I feel that consistent use of this product has plumped up my skin around my eyes and has made my fine lines less apparent. I have also noticed how smoothed out my eyelids are! They look less "crepey" and more healthy. I find that eyeshadow and eye liner apply more smoothly. Also, my dark circles have ever-so-slightly improved their appearance. The 2015 Wrinkle Ranking Stucy: How Does your State Rank? 

Location is everything when it comes to choosing the right neighborhood, apartment or family home, but did you know that the state you choose to live in could contribute to the development of wrinkles? Recently, RoC® Skincare revealed the results of the 2015 Wrinkle Ranking study and Georgia (my home state) is #27! This is so interesting!

In partnership with Sperling’s Best Places, Wrinkle Ranking helps Americans read between their fine lines and wrinkles by exposing the less obvious, state-specific factors that contribute to aging skin.

So, why did Georgia have a median rank of #27?

• Humidity keeps skin moist
• Low rate of skin cancer
• High levels of pollution
• Lengthy commutes and long workdays

Looking at these results, I definitely find that they all are true for Georgia. The pollution and long commutes are certainly a contrast to other areas of the country. However, with Georgia's median rank, we certainly are not the worst. I am really happy to hear that there is a low rate of skin cancer. This is actually a bit of a surprise to me. However, that might just be because skin cancer has personally affected me since my Dad has it (Basal Cell Carcinomas that are removed practically monthly) and I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma. I certainly agree that the humidity does great things for your skin! Next time I am complaining about how humid it is and how it is frizzing my hair, lol, I will need to remember the benefits for my skin! Hey, I would rather deal with some humidity than having to deal with extremely dry air that leaves you feeling parched.

“Resolutions List” Wilma Schumann Skincare!

What better time than the New Year to try out some new Skincare? As ya'll know, I am a bit of a skincare fanatic. I am super excited to try out new skincare from not only my favorite brands this year, but also I am excited to explore new and new-to-me brands as well! One new-to-me brand that I am excited to explore is Wilma Schumann Skincare!

Skincare "Resolutions List" for 2015:

• Remove your makeup, ALWAYS: This has to be one of the easiest ways to avoid breakouts yet it’s one of the main offenses in skin care. When we leave our makeup on and go to bed, we’re also leaving a few other things like street pollution, cell phone bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells. So, as tired as you are, it’s crucial that you remove all the icky stuff and do a quick wash, even if it’s all you do.

• Add Serums to your routine: Here’s the truth about serums. If you have oily skin, an oil-free serum is all you need and can replace your moisturizer. If you have dry skin, you can add a serum before your moisturizer and having both will increase both products’ potency. Here’s why serums rule: they often have smaller molecules than creams and can be better absorbed by the skin.

• Take your Vitamin C: Vitamin C can really maximize your results when it comes to anti-aging because it’s a powerful antioxidant and prevents cell damage that is exposed to free radicals and solar radiation. Another plus of this beauty vitamin is that it increases collagen synthesis, which lowers with aging. Vitamin C also helps to even out skin tone as it lightens and brightens to reveal a more radiant complexion.

• Look for topical Hyaluronic Acid: The potent ingredient is designed to hydrate and plump the skin and when used topically there’s zero downtime needed. You can find pure Hyaluronic acid in cream, gel or masks such as Wilma Schumann Hydra-Gel Masques.

• Give your décolleté some TLC: Take care of this delicate skin that is damaged by environmental factors. It’s important to keep in mind two key words: hydration and elasticity. Since this part of the body tends to be the driest due to less oil glands, you should apply your moisturizer as soon as you step out of the shower. Also, when it comes to exfoliation, less is more for the chest area. It should also be a thicker and denser than your face cream and include SPF. I am super excited to dive into Wilma Schumann Skincare! I have already started testing out a few items and as far as first-impressions, I am pleased with my results! Please see below for my first impressions on these products after using for the short-term:

I am loving the Wilma Schumann Hydra-Gel Masques as a weekly moisture treatment for my skin. I have the Hydra-Gel Masque in the Deep Sea Soil version. These are single application gel masks infused with hydrating/soothing ingredients. They feel so good on your face and are so soothing! Plus, they give me an excuse to do a bit of much-needed self-pampering. I apply the mask to freshly cleansed skin about once a week in the evenings. I lie down and relax for about 15 minutes with the mask on (yes, lol, I have actually fallen asleep this way). This mask leaves my skin looking nice and plump with fine lines smoothed! The mask is super cold and wet when I put it on. I do wish that the eye hole slits were more shaped like holes. I need to tear the mask a bit to make the eye area bigger otherwise you can't see. The mask is quite adjustable. So, you can stretch it and make it fit. I find that it is really best to lie down with this mask on as it does slide a bit. This mask leaves me super hydrated and it plumps up my skin to smooth out fine lines. This truly is a spa-quality treat (in my own bathroom, yay!!!)

The Wilma Schumann Oxygen Moisture Serum is fabulous, too! I love the texture and my skin just seems to drink this up. This serum really is more like a gel moisturizer than a serum. This oil-free moisturizer contains phospholipids, sphingolipids and Oxycarrier K (known for unparalleled moisturizing and antibacterial benefits).This gel serum is completely non-greasy. It absorbs into my skin instantly and seems to almost have a firming effect. During the winter (when my skin is more dry), I do need an additional moisturizer on top. However, I can see that this might be enough moisture for me, on its own, in the summer when I am more oily. I like that I can apply this to my skin and not worry about it breaking me out. In fact, with the antibacterial benefits, I think that this is actually going to help fight breakouts! Plus, I really like the packaging: a sleek little glass bottle with a pump.

It is time for another update in the My Skin Loves series! This is where I highlight fabulous skincare products that I am currently using and loving. 

My Skin:

Before diving into talking about new products. Let me give ya'll a bit of background on my skin. I have classic combo skin (normal-oily in Spring/Summer and normal-dry in Fall/Winter). I get everything from dry patches to oily spots depending on the fluctuation of my skin. I just turned 40 a few months ago. So, I am *very* interested in anti-aging skincare. I have no major lines or wrinkles yet (whew!). I want to fend those off for as long as I can! So far, I just have fine lines that crop up around my eyes (especially when my skin is dry). I do occasionally break out. Not all the time, but I do get breakouts still. Typically, breakouts are on my chin and occasionally by my nose. I have a few dark spots that arrived with my pregnancy. Luckily, these are gradually fading (but still bothersome). My biggest skincare complaint? My very dark under eye circles. I have hereditary dark circles plus allergies and a general lack of sleep. So, my poor eye area looks haggard! Finding good eye creams and concealers is one of the main reasons I am into skincare and got into beauty blogging! ;)

It is time for a "My Skin Loves" series update! This time I am sharing a "First Impressions" review of AHAVA's Dead Sea Osmoter Concentrate. 

AHAVA's Dead Sea Osmoter Concentrate:

AHAVA's Dead Sea Osmoter Concentrate is a skin-optimizing serum that recharges, rehydrates and illuminates skin for a more youthful complexion. It’s also powered by a triple concentration of AHAVA's proprietary Osmoter blend of natural Dead Sea Minerals found in all of its products.

AHAVA is a brand that I have previously tried, and loved, for body products. So, when I had the opportunity to try out this face serum from the brand, I jumped at the chance! 

My Skin:

Before jumping into my review, let me tell you a little bit more about my skin type. I have Combo Skin: Normal-Dry in the colder months and Normal-Oily in the warm months. I get everything from dry patches to oil slicks and everything in between. Currently, my skin is hovering in the Normal-Oily range. I just turned 40 and have very fine lines around my eyes. These are more apparent when my skin is dehydrated. So far, no major lines or wrinkles (whew!). I credit good skincare!!! :) I do not break out often. However, I do still occasionally battle blemishes on my chin.  

AHAVA's Dead Sea Osmoter Concentrate: 

I love the feel of this product on my skin! It is a medium weight silicone-based primer. When you apply, it sinks beautifully into your skin and instantly hydrates and soothes. Actually, I found that I can even skip a moisturizer when I use this lovely serum. It gives me all of the moisture that my combo (currently normal-oily) skin needs. It preps my skin beautifully for makeup as well. My fine lines look plumped, smoothed, and less apparent after using this. I love that this product comes in a pump! Plus, I love the scent. It is hard to describe. However, if you have ever tried StriVectin, it reminds me a lot of the scent of their products. I have only tried this product out for a few weeks. So, this is a "first impressions" review. I am looking forward to discovering results as I use it longer-term. I am literally always looking for a good serum: one that packs anti-aging benefits, hydrates skin, and preps skin well for makeup (doubles as a primer). This amazing serum from AHAVA accomplishes all of that! So, it is a winner for me. :)

To Use: I apply 1 pump of this product to my entire face after cleansing in the morning and evening. In the mornings I follow up with my daily SPF and in the evenings I apply it and then skip my nighttime moisturizer.  If your skin is dry, you are going to need an additional moisturizer.
