Late Summer SPF with Australian Gold

Affiliate Link Press Sample

The kids might be back-to-school, but it is still hot and sunny in Georgia! While we do wear sunscreen year-round, the protection needs are even higher with the high temps and exposed skin when wearing lightweight clothing.

Lately I have been loving the Australian Gold Botanical collection of sunscreens. These sunscreens really stand out! The packaging is beautiful and seriously looks like a high end sunscreen. I especially like this collection because they are all mineral sunscreens. They body sunscreens are highly fragranced. However, they do not have a typical tropical sunscreen smell. The facial SPF is unscented which I really appreciate! My facial skin is quite sensitive. So, using a non-scented mineral sunscreen is the way-to-go for me.

Mineral sunscreen is my sunscreen formulation of choice. Sure, I occasionally use non-mineral sunscreens on my body. However, I honestly prefer using mineral sunscreen protection. It does not degrade as quickly in the sun and it is less likely to irritate my somewhat sensitive skin. On my face, I almost exclusively use mineral sunscreens. Now with mineral sunscreens, you typically get a thicker formula and a white cast. However, I kinda prefer that texture and my skin is so fair that the white cast is never that much of a problem for me. However, if you have a darker skin tone, the white case is certainly a downside to using mineral sunscreen protection.

Here is the scoop on the Botanical Sunscreens straight from Australian Gold:

This non-chemical sunscreen lotion delivers a refreshingly luxurious, powdery-clean feel, while the subtle tint seamlessly blends into any skin tone, yet washes away with water. Specially designed for sensitive facial skin, this lotion won't clog pores and is fragrance free. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants from native Australian botanical ingredients, it allows you to enjoy the sun your way, protected from both UVA and UVB rays, and water resistant for up to 80 minutes. Discover the non-greasy, non-sticky feel of the Australian Gold® Botanical Line and experience worry-free days in the sun!
  • Broad Spectrum UVA/UVA Protection
  • Water resistant for up to 80 minutes
  • Ingredients: Red Algae, Kakadu Plum, Essential oil from the Eucalyptus tree, Vitamin E
  • Eco conscious formulations
  • Packaging is designed to use as few materials as possible in a recyclable container to reduce any potential waste.
  • Reef Friendly Formulas are free of oxybenzone, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, PABA, SLS, dyes and oils
  • Hypoallergenic , Dermatologist and Pediatrician Tested, Not tested on animals
  • Fragrance-Free

I really love this sunscreen!!! I am always in search of fantastic and affordable unscented mineral sunscreens and this is an amazing one at a great price. I really like tinted sunscreens as I don't tend to wear foundation on a daily basis. So, I appreciate my sunscreen having the ability to slightly even out my skin tone. Plus, the tint does tend to downplay any white cast of the mineral ingredients in the product. I am happy to add this to my daily SPF arsenal. I go through sunscreens so fast that I really appreciate good drugstore formulations.

Retails for $12.99; Ulta Beauty and www.AustralianGold.com

Antioxidant rich formula uses Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to provide a non-chemical UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection, with a powder-like matte-finish that’s never greasy.

I have really come to adore the scents of these sunscreens! I have been wearing these as my everyday sunscreens (applied to my arms, legs, and neck). The product is thick but I do feel that I am getting very good protection with these!
  • Broad Spectrum UVA/UVA Protection
  • Water resistant for up to 80 minutes
  • Ingredients: Red Algae, Kakadu Plum, Essential oil from the Eucalyptus tree, Vitamin E
  • Eco conscious formulations: Packaging is designed to use as few materials as possible in a recyclable container to reduce any potential waste.
  • Reef Friendly Formulas are free of oxybenzone, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, PABA, SLS, dyes and oils
  • Hypoallergenic , Dermatologist and Pediatrician Tested, Not tested on animals
  • Citrus Oasis fragrance with notes of Pineapple and Pomegranate

Retails for $14.99; Ulta Beauty and www.AustralianGold.com

If you are looking for fantastic everyday eco-friendly mineral sunscreens at a great drugstore price, then look no further than these from Australian Gold. I love them and think you will, too! :)

As always, thanks for reading.
XOXO!!!

Spring and Summer Staple SPF Products and my SPF Routine: Herpecin L and More!

All opinions are my own.

Spring and Summer Staple SPF Products and my SPF Routine with Herpecin L and more:
While we need SPF year-round, the Spring and Summer seasons are a great time to check in and evaluate your personal sunscreen routine. The sun's rays are damaging year-round. Not only can you burn from the sun, but also the sun can cause skin cancer, skin damage, discoloration, and can accelerate the signs of aging. So, we all need SPF protection every day. Not only do we need to apply SPF in the mornings, but re-application throughout the day is necessary, too. This is where I have fallen short in my SPF routine in the past. This is my focus now and moving forward. I need creative ways to reapply sunscreen throughout the day (and especially when I am in direct sun).

For this particular post, I am going to focus on the Sunscreens that I apply to my face and neck/chest (I will save my body sunscreens for a future post). I like to use a variety of SPFs throughout the day. So, lets start chatting about my SPF routine!

To start off the day, I make sure to apply a full and generous layer of SPF to my face as well as my chest/neck area (like I mentioned, I do apply to my whole body, but the body products will be in another post). I even include areas like my ears, lips, and eyelids. These are areas that I have unintentionally skipped in the past, but I am certainly including now.

For facial sunscreens, I prefer to use physical sunscreens (non-chemical active sunscreen ingredients). My favorite physical sunscreen ingredient combo is Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. I like this combo as it works the best on my sensitive skin. The downside to this physical sunscreen combo is that it has a white cast when applied. However, my skin is *so fair* that a white cast is honestly not that noticeable on me. Physical sunscreens are also great because they do not degrade as quickly. So, they offer fantastic protection against those damaging rays of the sun. Right now I am loving the MyChelle Dermacuticals Sun Shield Unscented SPF 28. Typically, SPF 30 is best, but SPF 28 is pretty darn close. I do tend to switch around with my facial SPF, but stick generally within the physical sunscreen category. I also love Neutrogena's Sheer Zinc and my previous Holy Grail tinted SPF from Belli was just discontinued (so sad!!!). However, there are tons of great ones out there and I am curious to explore more options.

I apply my first layer of facial SPF in the mornings as the final step in my skincare routine. After I get a good base layer of SPF, I like to add in a tinted sunscreen or BB/CC Cream for added protection. Right now I am really loving Pevonia's NEW YouthRenew Tinted Cream SPF 30. This product gives nice skin protecting coverage plus is enriched with other skin-loving ingredients. It comes in a universal shade which just happens to blend in with my skintone seamlessly (not sure how it would blend with darker tones as I am very fair).

It is so important to not neglect your neck and chest/decolletage area! That area gets just as much sun exposure as your face. Plus, I use skincare actives on my neck and chest which makes it more susceptible to sun damage. So, I like to apply RoC's Multi Correxion 5-in-1 Chest, Neck, and Face Cream with SPF 30. I apply this generously and just love how it sinks in and protects. Granted, I could just apply my facial sunscreen on my neck and chest. However, I like physicaly suncreens on my face but am fine with chemical or mixed sunscreens on my chest and neck area and this one works great and gives no white cast.

Next, I make sure to apply a generous layer of Herpecin L on my lips. I just adore this lip treatment!!! Not only is it a fabulous lip moisturizer, but also it has SPF 30 protection (which is honestly hard to find in a lip balm...most just have SPF 15 which I feel is honestly not enough protection) and it has ingredients to combat cold sores. I don't personally suffer from cold sores. However, if you do, it is fantastic to get a cold sore treatment, lip balm, and lip sunscreen in one product! Fact: Did you know that 50-80% US adults have oral herpes? Yes, it is actually very common. So, I am hoping that this post helps to de-stigmatize having oral herpes as it is so common. Herpecin L is very reasonably priced and easily available at your local Walmart store. Herpecin L is safe and effective to use every day and throughout the day to help relieve and protect painful cracking of lips while also promoting healing without numbing nor drying. Herpecin L is uniquely formulated with dimethicone for protection, and sunscreens to help guard against the sun's harmful rays.

I reapply the Herpecin L very frequently throughout the day. Lips are very prone to skin cancer, sunburns, and general dryness. Lips really need more application than any other body part because of natural licking of lips throughout the day, eating, and drinking. So, the SPF protection that you apply is constantly being taken off. So, just keep re-applying! I keep an extra Herepcin L in my purse for touch ups and reapplication. I always apply before going outside and when on-the-go. I just love this stuff!!!

For sunscreen reapplication throughout the day, the best bet is really to just apply another layer of your sunscreen. If I am in the yard most of the day or at the pool, then that is exactly what I do. Also, I always try to seek shade and if I am getting a lot of exposure while outside I wear a hat or wear sun protective clothing as well.

On days where I have minimal sun exposure, my reapplication is a bit different. I recently discovered two fantastic products that are perfect for layering over your previously applied sunscreens and makeup. The first one that I want to talk about is Jane Iredale's Powder Me SPF Dry Sunscreen. This product is fantastic!!! I use the shade translucent, but it is also available in 2 other shades (3 shades total). I believe that this is a SPF 30. However, I wouldn't rely on it as my only sunscreen as you would have to apply it so thick...but, as a supplimental sunscreen it is perfect! Plus, it is so nice to just be able to pat it over your previous sunscreen and makeup without disrupting your carefully applied makeup. It is also fantastic to apply to your hair part if you need extra protection there!

Another fantastic option for reapplication is the SeriouslyFab Zinc it Over Sheer Sunscreen Facial Mist. This sheer mist is perfecting for misting over your makeup to set makeup and to add an additional layer of SPF protection throughout the day (without messing up your makeup!). The formula is Cruelty Free, Natural, Vegan and Safe with No Chemicals. The formula includes Non-Nano Zinc Oxide. It is available regular and non-scented. I love the sheer extra protection that I get from this product and the nice glowy finish it gives to my makeup!

I hope you got some good ideas for products and tips after reading my Sunscreen routine and tips for reapplying throughout the day! I know that key products like Herpecin L give me the great SPF protection that I need every day while also keeping my lips moisturized, smoothed, and protected. Reapplying SPF to my face, neck, and chest throughout the day really ups my sun protection while keeping my skin nicely hydrated. I am thrilled with my SPF routine! I would love to hear about yours, too!

NEUTROGENA® Long Live Skin Event with Actress Jamie King to Encourage Sun Safety:

To increase awareness around the importance of skin health among occasional SPF users and encourage daily sunscreen use, NEUTROGENA® supported the Long Live Skin event on Thursday, June 23rd in Philadelphia, PA. The gorgeous model-actress Jamie King was on site at the event interacting with consumers and encouraging them and their families to wear sunscreen every day. NEUTROGENA® Event Ambassador, Jamie King, helped to raise awareness of the need for sun protection reguardless of the season, weather, or geographical location. Jamie was on-stie to interact with customers during this fun beach-themed event. She emphasized the importance of protecting children from the dangers of the sun at a very young age.

Sun protection is a very important topic to me. My life has personally been touched by the impact of inadequate sunscreen as I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma and my Dad constantly has Carcinomas removed. Daily sunscreen use is of the utmost importance to keep yourself protected! So, I am spreading the word on the importance of daily sunscreen use for ourselves, our loved ones, and our children.

NEUTROGENA® Sunscreen Statistics:
  • On average, more than 350 Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every hour- even though skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers.
  • According to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), consumers often do not get the UV protection stated ont he sunscreen label because they grossly under-apply, using less than half the recommended amount.
  • Just 1-2 severe sunburns can increase the risk of melanoma by 40%.
  • Only 40% of US households purchase sunscreen (only 37% women and 16% men use sunscreen regularly)

Sun Safety Tips from Jamie King: Q & A with Jamie!

Why is sun safety important to you?
Sun safety was always ingrained in me. My mother was ahead of the game in sun protection and making us wear sunscreen at a time when there really wasn’t the awareness there is today. If we were in the sun, we were always protected. Skin cancer runs in my family, my father has it, so for me it’s something that is very important to me especially since it’s the most preventable form of cancer. Also, sunscreen also prevents fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots and keeps your skin looking great.
How do you fit sunscreen into your beauty routine?
People always ask me what my top beauty tips are and I always say sunscreen and water, so it’s easy to fit sunscreen into my beauty routine. Also, all of my makeup has sunscreen in it, but I always do double duty! You need to apply a sunscreen first and then apply your makeup with SPF.
Do you wear sunscreen every day?
I apply sunscreen every day. People think if it’s cloudy out you don’t have to apply sunscreen, but that is just not true and when the biggest mistakes happen. I also apply it to my kids every day. The minute they get up before they put their clothes on, we put on sunscreen. It’s a routine, just like brushing their teeth. I also think it’s important to lead by example. Not only do they see me applying it on them, but they see me applying it to myself.
Which NEUTROGENA® products would you recommend for a mom:
NEUTROGENA® Ultra Sheer® Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+ is perfect! When you’re a mom, you are running around with your head cut off half the time. The product is so easy and weightless, so you won’t look crazy with white streaks running down your face and you’ll stay protected. It’s one less thing to worry about.
What are your favorite NEUTROGENA® products for your kids?
I love NEUTROGENA® Pure & Free® Baby sunscreen because it protects them from the sun without harsh chemicals and it doesn’t run and sting their eyes.
What is your number one Sun Care Tip?
Consistency and reapplying throughout the day! Especially with my kids, I like to reapply every 30 minutes and there are such great products available now that make it easy to do.
How do you make applying sunscreen a fun activity for your kids?
My son loves putting on his sunscreen, he puts it on himself. He uses the NEUTROGENA® sunscreen sticks and it’s like a fun painting project.
What’s in Your Beach Bag
First and fore most sunscreen – that’s a no brainer. I don’t carry much in my bag because I don’t love getting sand in it, but I always have books and headphones. I also always wear a hat and sunglasses to protect my scalp and behind my ears.

SkinCeuticals and LATHER Products from LovelySkin.com: First Impressions Review and Giveaway!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample
The opinions expressed in this blog post are my own. The products were given to me for free by LovelySkin.com and I received no other compensation for this post.

Don't you just love finding a new resource/e-commerce site for your beauty shopping? I know that I do. With two kids under 3, I am doing more online shopping than ever. It is just so much easier for me to browse a website from home than to juggle the kids while out shopping in an actual brick and mortar store. Sure we get out shopping plenty, but I really don't get much from my list! We just go out for fun! :)

Sorry, I digress, lets get back to talking about the fabulous new products that I tried out from LovelySkin.com. I had the opportunity to try out three amazing products from LovelySkin.com: LATHER Lemongrass Wasabi Hand Wash, LATHER Quiet Night Relaxing Balm, and SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense. LATHER is a line that I fell in love with recently after trying an assortment of products (if you missed it, please check out my previous LATHER review here!). SkinCeuticals is a line that I have used in the past and am happy to be returning to!

LovelySkin.com is the third largest cosmetically website in the world and they serve hundreds of thousands of customers and offer over 250 brands and 10,000 skin care, makeup and hair care products. So, no matter what you are looking for, you probably will find it on this site!

Top Ten Tuesdays: Great SPFs for Summer and Year Round!

Press Sample Affiliate Link Blogger Ambassador

For this edition of Top Ten Tuesdays, I am going to share some of the best Sunscreens that I have come across in the past 6 months. I am going to go ahead and tell you, this list actually contains 11 Sunscreens! As much as I wanted to keep it to just 10, there were 11 Sunscreens that I really wanted to talk about and share with you. I tried to pick out sunscreens across a few sunscreen categories: Sunscreens for Face, Spray Sunscreens, Tinted Sunscreens, Sunscreens for Kids, Waterproof Sunscreens, newly released Sunscreens, and even Sunscreen with Bug Repellent!

I don't mess around when it comes to sun protection. Daily use of an SPF is a MUST for me. I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma and my Dad constantly battles Carcinomas. I have inherited my Father's fair skin, so I really need to be sure that I am protected in the Sun. Plus, I love being outdoors. I literally slather sunscreen on every morning on every body part that I know will be exposed to the sun. For days that I am going to be at the pool, I rely on waterproof Sunscreens. I am constantly switching up my sunscreen depending on what I am doing that day and what I need. This list focuses on my current rotation of Sunscreens and ones that I am really enjoying right now! :)

Top Ten Tuesdays: My Sunscreen Arsenal
Here are some of my favorite, across a variety of Sunscreen categories, in my vast SPF Arsenal. You will see quite a variety here: from high end brands to drugstore favorites, spray sunscreens to classic lotions, and even face sunscreens and sunscreens for babies and kids! I like having a variety of formulas on hand depending on what I am doing and the type of protection that I need.

  • Kate Somerville | Daily Deflector Moisturizer Anti-Aging Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 20: I adore Kate Somerville skincare and this facial sunscreen is fabulous. With the SPF of only 20, this is used as a daily moisturizer for days that I am not getting direct exposure. It does triple duty by providing anti-aging protection, while moisturizing, and fighting environmental damage. Plus, it has light-diffusing pigments to blur fine lines and perfect your skin. Yes, please!
  • Neutrogena | Wet Skin Sunscreen SPF 50: When I am going to be at the beach or pool and know that I will primarily be in the water, I rely on a sunscreen made to work on wet skin! This spray is swim, humidity, and sweat resistant. This one is also great for reapplying on wet skin as it still applies full strength even if it is applied to wet skin. So, sometimes I might start off with a lotion sunscreen before leaving the house but use this for reapplication while at the pool.
  • Australian Gold | Lotion Sunscreen SPF 15 with Instant Bronzer: OMG! I love this stuff! First, it smells amazing and 2nd it provides a beautiful bronze glow on your skin. While I embrace being fair, I do especially love a bit of color to my legs. This product is perfect for that! It is my go-to "leg" sunscreen for Summer when my legs are bared in short skirts or shorts.
  • Hawaiian Tropic | Touch of Color Tinted Spray Lotion Sunscreen SPF 15: I have been a fan of Hawaiian Tropic since I was a kid. This new Touch of Color Tinted Spray Sunscreen is a great addition to the line! I love the classic scent and the ease of this spray. Plus, it does give a lovely touch of color! Another great product for your legs! :)

  • Aveeno Baby | Natural Protection Lotion Sunscreen with SPF 50: Aveeno is my go-to brand for baby products! My son has eczema and super sensitive skin. So, I rely heavily on Aveeno baby products! I can apply this sunscreen on my baby boy and know that he will be protected and that it won't irritate his sensitive and fair skin. I also use this on my preschool-aged daughter. It is sweat and water resistant.
  • Avon | Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus Expedition Insect Repellent with SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray: What a genius idea! The bug repelling classic Avon Skin-So-Soft formula with an SPF of 30! A perfect combo! I love the outdoors in the Summer...but, unfortunately, the bugs love me, too. I am a mosquito magnet but I don't always want to be slathering on bug repellents with harmful DEET chemicals. So, I am super happy about this Avon Bug Guard Plus! It works amazingly well to keep the GA mosquitos away! I am hooked on this for sunny backyard playtime!
  • Palmer's | Cocoa Butter Formula EVENTONE SUNCARE Moisturizing Sunscreen Balm: I have loved Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotions for years! So, I was excited to try out their new line of SPF products. They are all fantastic and I particularly love this Sunscreen Balm. It is such a unique texture for a sunscreen! It is like a body balm but has the added benefit of SPF! Not to mention, it smells amazing and leaves your skin luminous and hydrtated!
  • Osmosis | Shade Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Moisturizer: This is one of my newest additions to my facial sunscreen collection of products. With Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide as the active ingredients, it is a winner for me (for some reason, that is a magical mix of SPFs for my skin). Plus, it contains fractionated coconut oil, which I am a fan of as well. I am exploring a few other products from Osmosis Skincare and must say that I am really becoming a fan of the line!
What sunscreens are you loving lately? Have you used any of these from my list? Be sure to check out the thumbnails from my fellow Top Ten Tuesdays bloggers below to find out what Sunscreens they are loving lately!

Desperately Seeking SPF: Radical Skincare's NEW Skin Perfecting Screen SPF 30

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

It is time for another update in my Desperately Seeking SPF series! This series is all about finding fabulous SPFs for the face as well as the body. SPF is an absolute daily "must have" for me. Not only does skin cancer run in my family, but also I have lost a dear friend to Melanoma. I don't mess around when it comes to wearing SPF! I apply it every single day. To top that, my skin is somewhat sensitive and temperamental. Like many with Combo skin, my skins needs seem to change seasonally: I am dryer in the winter and more oily in the warmer months. I want good SPF not only for Cancer prevention, but also for the anti-aging benefits as well. I recently turned 40, gasp, and I attribute everyone not believing that I am 40 to my years of wearing great SPFs!

For today's post, I am going to highlight the fabulous new SPF from Radical Skincare: Radical's Skin Perfecting Screen SPF 30. I am a HUGE fan of this line. If you missed my previous reviews, be sure to check them out here: Radical Skincare's Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum and  Radical Skincare's Age Defying Exfoliating Pads (these are still my favorite things ever!). Desperately Seeking SPF: NEOVA SmartScience SmartSunscreens

My Desperately Seeking SPF Sunscreen Review Series continues with these amazing sunscreens from Neova! Ya'll know that I test out a ton of Sunscreens. With my super-duper fair skin, I just need the best sun protection that I can get!

What I am looking for in a Sunscreen:
Besides protection from the sun, I need a sunscreen that does not irritate my skin nor leave me feeling greasy. Not only is my skin very fair and in need of major sun protection, but also my skin is very sensitive. Random ingredients can wreak havoc on my skin and cause irritation. In particular, I have difficulties with sunscreen ingredients. Many sunscreens increase the redness in my skin and make me look blotchy. Also, I want my sunscreen to hydrate my skin and provide a nice base for makeup. Lastly, I need a sunscreen that does not cause nor aggravate breakouts. Yes, this is a tall order for sure!
My Desperately Seeking SPF Sunscreen Series continues with my reviews of these great Sunscreens from NEOVA: DNA Damage Control Everyday (SPF 44), and DNA Damage Control Slic Sheer 2.0 Photo Finish Tint (SPF 40).
