Summertime with LUSH: Fresh and Fun Products!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

It is time to share some LUSH love! As ya'll know, I am quite a bit of a LUSHie. I absolutely can not resist the LUSH store at the Mall nor the fabulous LUSH products! Many of the LUSH products that I have tried have become staples in my beauty routine. Not to mention, when it is time for a bath, LUSH is my go-to brand for fun bath bombs and a great spa-like bath experience! :) Not to mention, I love that the products are fresh and hand made!

There are a couple LUSH product that I have tried recently that really stand out as fun and fresh products for Summertime: LUSH's Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter and LUSH's D'Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap.

LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter:
I have used this amazing lemony cuticle butter off-and-on for a couple years now. Nothing transforms my dry and sometimes cracked (ewh!) cuticles better than this product! I use nail strengtheners frequently which are super drying to the cuticle area. I do my nails more in this Summer (because of the need for fresh pedicures!). So, my nails and cuticles tend to get their driest ever from the nail strengtheners (and of course the frequent hand washing with diaper changes with my toddler). Lemony Flutter combats nail dryness beautifully! Plus, OMG, the scent is amazing! I literally smell this every single time I open the jar. The naturally fresh lemon scent is so enticing! The product is full of super rich emollients to moisturize your skin...plus, the lemon has natural exfoliating properties that can work on those tough cuticles. I use by dabbing a small bit into each cuticle and massaging it in. It is my nightly ritual to apply this butter. I also dab a bit onto other dry parts of my hands and sometimes even my elbows, too. Love, love, love this stuff!

D'Fluff A Strawberry Shaving Soap:
One of my all-time favorite Summer scents is Strawberry. I rotate most of my bath and body products seasonally according to scent (and formula: extra moisture in Winter, etc). My shower is currently filled with and assortment of citrus, coconut, and yes even Strawberry body washes, scrubs, and this amazing D'Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap from LUSH! As someone who shaves her leges every single day (ugh, I know...Dermatologist's orders for me to do it every day to avoid ingrown hairs, which I am prone to), I sure do appreciate a luxury shave product like D'Fluff. I love the sweetness and the fluffy texture of this product. Plus, it is so moisturizing!

Do you have any new daily staple products in your Summer beauty/bath and shower routine? Also, what are you loving lately from LUSH? I would love to continue to explore this brand further and love to hear recommendations! :)

Affiliate Link Press Sample

Do you get excited every year for Shark Week? As you may know, the Discovery Channel's famous and highly anticipated Shark Week kicks off on August 10th. The folks at LUSH have partnered with Discovery Channel's Shark Week to produce this adorable shark soap! Not only is the soap cute and it gets you excited for shark week, but also 100% of the sale price gets donated to a great cause!!!

Shop LUSH and Support a Great Cause: The "Fin Free Movement":
Learn more: From LUSH: Sharks are killed largely for their fins with the practice of shark finning taking only the fin and discarding the body, wasting 95 percent of the animal. Because LUSH cares about animals and the planet, they have partnered with SHARK WEEK and United Conservationists to launch a campaign across all of our stores in North America from July 30 – August 16. In addition to selling Shark Fin Soap they are also inviting their customers to sign petitions asking for a complete ban on the trade, and possession of ALL shark fin products (read more here: www.fin-free.com/petitions).
This adorable soap launches July 30th ($5.95) to promote shark conservation efforts. The soap is made from vegan, cruelty-free ingredients including skin-softening seaweed, cleansing sea salt, lime and lavender. A paper fin in the top of the soap is a cheeky reminder about the very important topic of shark finning and how everyone can help change the tide for sharks. With every purchase of Shark Fin Soap, LUSH will give 100 percent of the sale price to United Conservationists to support their FinFree™ movement.

Don't delay supporting this great cause! These cute soaps are available for a limited time only. They are so cute for either yourself, special kids in your life, or any Shark Week lover that you know! Plus, you are supporting a great cause (all with a cute soap!). I mean, really, this soap is so flippin cute!!! Plus, it smells amazing! :)

My Home Spa: Latest Loves from LUSH!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

It is time for a "My Home Spa" update! As ya'll know, I am all about bath time lately. As a super busy stay-at-home Mom of a newborn and a toddler, undisturbed "me time" is very rare. My best bet for relaxation and tranquility? Retreating into my bathroom for a nice bath. I am trying to do this at least a couple times a week when my husband can take over bedtime duties with my toddler and my newborn.
My Home Spa:
Speaking of "my home spa" aka: my master bathroom, I might do some posts on my ongoing process of decorating my bathroom and transforming it into a "spa-like" room. After many years in a crowded urban home, we moved to the outer burbs a few months ago and I finally have my "dream space": a large master bathroom. Would you all be interested in reading about that process? I am very excited about it! It is taking awhile as I want to buy art, decor, furniture, and organizational pieces that really speak to me and work with the space. So far, it is painted (a nice sea/teal blue), we have changed out some of the fixtures, and I have found a large painting to hang. My next step is purchasing either a large plush bench or a chaise and a linen tower for next to the tub. I think that I need some plants and some containers to hold my bath products as well. I would love to hear some ideas about how to organize my bath products around my tub!

My other spa "escape"? My morning shower. Often, it has to be super short as I need to be back on Mommy-duty. However, using luxurious shower products makes that 5 minutes in the shower just that much more "special". I am finding that I am pretty much addicted to my latest additions to my shower gel and body scrub collection. Uplifting scents and nicely textured scrubs are both relaxing and invigorating for me in the mornings. So, needless to say, I am digging my new LUSH shower items!

With how much I am into baths lately, you know that I am excited to try out some new items from LUSH! Here are the items that I tried from their Valentine's Day collection: Love Locket Heart Breaker Bath Bomb, The Kiss Tinted Lip Balm, and the Prince Charming Shower Gel. Plus, I got a few new items from their regular line like the Tea Tree Water, the Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter, and the Rub, Rub, Rub scrub. Overall, I am in bath & body heaven with my new LUSH products!

If you want to hear more about each item, please click "read more" below!

Treats for Your Skin: Pixi's Glow Tonic, Michael Todd's Cranberry Antiox, and LUSH's Tea Tree Water!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

After doing without toner for years (I am not sure why?), I have rediscovered using toners after cleansing and am fully hooked! There is just something so refreshing about using a toner! Now that I have gotten used to using a toner again, my skincare routine does not seem complete without it!

Now, there are many different types of toners on the market. Toners that clarify and target breakout-prone skin by refining pores and disinfecting the skin, toners that contain AHAs or BHAs to exfoliate the skin, and hydrating toners with antioxidants and other anti-aging ingredients. Personally, I like all of the above. One of my biggest tips when it comes to skincare is to give your skin what it needs...and what it needs might be different depending on the time of year or even the particular day. Example: During my recent pregnancy, my skin got quite oily and breakout prone: so I discovered and fell in love with a toner that disinfected my skin and reduced my oil and breakouts.

Here are a few of my new favorite toners in current rotation in my skincare routine. They are all very different...yet, all very great! An Exfoliating Toner: Pixi's Glow Tonic, An Anti-Blemish Clarifying Toner: LUSH's Tea Tree Water, and a Hydrating/Anti-Aging Toner: Michael Todd's Cranberry Antiox Toner. To find out a bit more about each toner, please click "read more" below.

Makeup Wars: Winter Lip Rescue: Products and Treatments for Soft and Smooth Lips!

Affiliate Link Press Sample/I Bought It Myself

It is time for another Makeup War!!! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are sharing their favorite products for Wintertime Lip Rescue! I don't know about ya'll, but my lips really suffer from the dry air of Winter. I need the absolute best-of-the-best products to keep my lips soft and smooth. Here are my Hands-down favorite products for soft and smooth lips!

LUSH Santa's Lip Scrub: LUSH's lip scrubs are the only lip scrubs that I use! I have tried a variety of flavors and really have loved everything so far: the BubbleGum, Popcorn, and currently the Santa's Lip Scrubs. I must try the Mint Julips flavor next! The LUSH Lip Scrubs are sugar-based scrubs with softening oils. To use, you just scrub them on clean lips and then lick off. Easy-peasy! :)

Aquaphor Lip Repair + Protect Broad Spectrum SPF Lip Protectant: This is my current go-to daytime lip moisturizer/protectant. For daytime, I insist on a lip balm with SPF (even in the winter!). This moisturizing balm has all of the wonderful healing powers of Aquaphor (love that stuff!) in a convenient little tube. It instantly soothes and softens my lips. Love it!!!

Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream: OMG! I know, I can't stop talking about this amazing multi-purpose ointment. It is quite simply a miracle in a tube. I apply it every single night without fail to my lips before going to bed. If I wake up at all in the night (which happens often when you are pregnant, lol), I apply it again. I first discovered this product after my first baby when I was really suffering from the dry lips that can accompany breast-feeding and post-baby hormonal changes. This was the only thing that helped back then and I still swear by it now. No, I am not crazy about the taste/smell. However, I can deal with that with how well this product works (and I hear that there is an un-scented version available, too). I am on my 3rd tube of this and will repurchase it forever! Plus, it is not just for lips! You can put it on any dry area that needs healing or protecting!

Reviva Labs Vit E Oil Stick: I love this Vit E Oil stick from Reviva Labs! I keep this stick in my purse/diaper bag for on-the-go use. It contains a blend of natural oils and vitamin E. Sometimes I like to layer this under the Aquaphor Repair + Protect or I use it on its own. The oil really seems to sink into the lips to penetrate and moisturize. Plus, it is not just for lips!

Be sure to click on the thumbnails below to find out what my fellow Makeup Wars bloggers are loving for Winter Lip Rescue!

What do you use to treat and prevent Winter-dry lips? I would love to hear in the comments below!
Thanks for reading!
XOXO!!!

Back to the Basics: Hair Helpers: Top 9 Recent Additions to My Hair Routine!

Affiliate Link Press Samples/I Bought It

It is time for another "Back to the Basics" post! This time the focus is on "Hair Helpers". Hair Helpers are my everyday basic hair products that streamline my routine, give my hair a boost, and basically make my hair routine easier. Hair products are the quintessential "basic"! A girl has got to have a good hair day, right?!?!

With my long (and often unruly) hair, I am pretty obsessed with trying out hair products. Good hair products not only make my hair softer, shinier, or smoother, but also streamline my routine! I love any product that produces good hair results while making my hair easier to style. This "Hair Helpers" post is the roundup of the best of the newest additions to my hair care routine! I try a lot of new hair products every month. This post contains only the best products that I have added over the past 2+ months. :)

My Hair Type:
It always helps me to know a blogger's hair type when reading hair reviews. So, here is mine: My hair is long, relatively straight, highlighted, and dry/damaged. Here is what I mean by relatively straight: I was born with straight hair and have had straight hair almost my whole life. However, with my first pregnancy, the hormonal change brought out these crazy kinky patches in my hair. So, my hair is primarily straight with some random kinky/curly spots. Has this happened to anyone else? It makes my hair much harder to manage and really mixes up the texture.

With my dry/damaged hair and very thick and somewhat coarse hair type, I can really use a lot of products in my hair. My hair literally just seems to "soak in" product. Rarely is a product ever "too thick" or "too rich" for me. So, if your hair sounds similar, then these products might work for you, too! :)

The Beauty Spotlight Team: Top 10 Products for Pregnancy Skincare & Beauty Pampering!

I Bought It  Affiliate Link Press Sample

Beauty Pampering in Pregnancy:
As many of you know, pregnancy can be flat out exhausting! Your legs are aching, your skin is stretching, your skin type and hair type may have changed, and you basically can just feel achy, bloated, and tired...not to mention feeling "big". Plus, it is difficult to battle pregnancy related issues like breakouts with the restrictions of using only pregnancy-safe products. You can't use many of your usual standbys for oily skin and breakouts (no benzol peroxide nor retinol while pregnant) and body aches (Advil is another no-no).

My Thoughts on Ingredients to Avoid:
There are certainly ingredients that you have to avoid in pregnancy. These are ingredients that have been proven to cause problems. But what about the "iffy" ones? The difficulty is that there are no studies or tests of most cosmetic ingredients. Your skin is one of your body's largest organs. Anything applied to your skin has the potential to be absorbed into your system and may pass through the placenta to the baby. I categorize myself as cautiously conservative when it comes to product ingredients in pregnancy. I try to stick primarily to "natural" ingredients and steer clear from ingredients that are unknown. I think that my good friend Christine explained Cosmetic Ingredients to Avoid in Pregnancy best in her Pregnancy Skincare series on her fabulous blog 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic. Christine is a doctor (pediatric) that enjoys digging into skincare research with the critical understanding of a scientist. So, be sure to check out her post/series! :) Also, she just highlighted 8 Pregnancy Skincare Lines on babble.

My Pregnancy Skincare and Beauty-Related Routine Struggles:
I know that every woman and every pregnancy is different. So, I am going to share with you some of my particular beauty-related struggles from my current and previous pregnancies:
  • Body Aches and Fatigue: As you can imagine or relate to, pregnancy brings on the body aches and pains. Your body is expanding, your ligaments and skin are stretching, and you are adjusting to ever-increasing weight. Not to mention, your energy is zapped! Typically, I turn to expercise (walking, running, yoga, etc) to relieve body aches and pains (I have Fibromyalgia).  However, my routine has been WAY off between pregnancy, moving house, and running around after a toddler. I know, I know...excuses! Needless to say, I am feeling achy and exhausted. Baths with bath salts and massages are essential for my ache-fighting pregnancy beauty routine! Side note: somehow I was much better with my fitness routine last pregnancy. I think that running around after a toddler should count as exercise, right?!?!
  • Oily Scalp/Hair: I have had quite a dilemma! While my hair itself is dry and damaged from highlighting, my scalp has become very oily. The only times in my whole life that my hair/scalp becomes oily is with pregnancy. I do not have a particular product to share with you to combat this issue. I simply wash my hair more frequently and rely more heavily on dry shampoos. Normally, I wash every 2-3 days. However, with the 1st trimester of pregnancy (when I seem to have the most oil in my scalp) I wash every day (what a pain!!!).
  • Oily Skin and Hormonal Breakouts: My skin seems to break out like crazy on my chin during pregnancy. Also, I become very oily in the t-zone. Typically, breakouts are rare for me. However, when I am pregnant, I am constantly battling zits. Plus, with pregnancy skincare ingredient restrictions, breakouts can be hard to treat. I will share with you my "secret weapon" for pregnancy breakouts!
  • Stretching Skin: Like all preggies, I am dealing with stretching skin. Everything seems to get bigger in pregnancy...not just my belly! Stretchy skin can feel very tight, dry, and itchy. Good lotions and oils are the key to keeping the skin comfortable while it stretches. Also, I want to do whatever I can to minimize the impact of stretch marks. I was lucky and didn't get any with my first pregnancy. I know that stretch marks are primarily determined by heredity. However, I still want to moisturize as much as I can! Who knows, maybe that helped prevent their appearance from my last pregnancy!
  • Lack of "Beauty Sleep": Now we all know that a good night's sleep is essential to look your best! However, the various issues of pregnancy prevent sound sleeping. While I don't have a cure-all for good pregnancy sleep...I have an amazing positioning pillow that I am going to share with ya'll!
Pregnancy-Safe Products:
So, what is a pregnant girl to do? Throughout my last pregnancy as well as this current pregnancy, I have been scouring the internet, searching through local stores, and shopping my beauty stash to come up with a comprehensive resource of the best pregnancy skincare and beauty pampering products. I am using quite an arsenal of products. However, I am only sharing the best-of-the-best here! After careful deliberation and editing, I have narrowed my list down to the top 10!

So, are you curious? Please click "read more" below to see my Top 10 Products for Pregnancy Skincare & Beauty Pampering!

LUSH Store Tour and Discovering the Best LUSH Products for Pregnancy Pampering!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample
Are you looking for a fun shopping experience? Do you have a LUSH store or a LUSH department (in a Macy's) near you? I highly recommend stopping into your nearest LUSH location to experience all that the store has to offer! Recently, I toured the LUSH "Mall of Georgia" store location. What a fun experience! Not only was that particular trip fun, but also I should mention that I enjoy exploring LUSH products every time I step into a LUSH store or LUSH store department.

For my LUSH store tour, I had one purpose in mind: Pregnancy Pampering!!! As many of you know, pregnancy can be flat out exhausting.Your legs are aching, your skin is stretching, your skin type and hair type may have changed, and you basically can just feel achy, bloated, and tired. Plus, you can't use many of your usual standbys for oily skin and breakouts (no benzol peroxide nor retinol while pregnant) and body aches (Advil is another no-no). Whenever I complain to my OB about fatigue and aches...what does he recommend??? A bath!!! So, what is a girl to do? Me? I headed right to my very favorite bath and body store...LUSH!

So, I basically got the "pregnancy tour"! :) The LUSH Mall of Georgia's Curtis gave me a really fabulous tour and experience. There is no question that he is not only knowledgeable, but also passionate about LUSH products! His enthusiasm was contagious and I had a lot of fun discovering all that LUSH had to offer a tired preggie like me. :)

While I heard about and smelled items in almost all of the stores categories, I am going to focus a bit more on the items that I ended up taking home (otherwise this post would be WAY too long, lol!). There is no question. When it comes to beauty pampering, LUSH has you totally covered!

Top Ten Tuesdays: 10 Things in my Shower

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

Welcome to another round of Top Ten Tuesday!!! If you are new to this series, it is a collaborative post which links up to other top beauty bloggers in the links and thumbnails at the end of this post. Every other week, we pick a beauty category. We then make a Top 10 (or as close to 10 as we can get) list for said category. This weeks topic? Things in my shower! :)

10 Things in my Shower:
I am a bit of a shower product fanatic!!! I actually have almost 20 products currently in my shower. This Top 10 assortment is a collection of my current favorite things in my shower! No, I don't use all of these things for every single shower. Some of these are 1x/week or occasional use items. Still, I like to have them on hand for when I do want to use them. Sure, it makes for a lot of products in the shower; but, hey, that is why we build in extra shower shelves during our shower rennovation! :)

Here they are (in no particular order):

1. Neutrogena's Rain Bath: This product is such a classic! It has that fabulous and distinctive "Neutrogena" smell (fresh herbs and spices). I know this product has been around for ages, but I just finally tried it! It has quickly become a favorite of both myself and my husband. It cleanses completely yet is also gentle and rinses clean: exactly what I want in a soap. Plus, it has a great later! I like the original Rainbath so much that I want to try the other scents, too! It is also available in Grapefruit and Green Tea Pear.

2. LUSH's Flying Fox Shower Gel: While on the topic of shower gels, here is another great one! To me, LUSH proucts are all-about scent. This shower gel's sensual scent is to-die-for!!! It is a mixture of jasmine and ylang-ylang. This shower gel lathers great and the scent really lingers on your skin.

3. LUSH's H'Suan Wen Hua: My latest craze in hair treatments? Products that you apply to dry hair! While I do not technically keep this product in my shower, I do rinse it out in the shower. I slather this deep conditioner all over my dry hair in the mornings when I wake up (about once a week).  By the time I am ready for my shower, it has penetrated deeply and is ready to be rinsed out. Then I proceed with washing and conditioning like normal. I love the scent of this deep conditioner: it smells like gingerbread batter! Plus, like most LUSH products, the scent really lingers! This product packs in both protein and moisture for damaged hair.

4. LUSH's Ro's Argan Body Conditioner: Yes, another LUSH product. My shower is typically an oasis of LUSH products...what can I say? I am obcessed!!! This scent is, hands-down, my #1 all-time favorite LUSH scent. It is a soft and intoxicating rose scent. While I would not normally describe myself as someone loving Rose scents...for some reason, this particular rose scent just really appeals to me! It is like rose mixed with honey. I wish that LUSH made more products infused with this scent! So, what is a body conditioner? It is like a hair conditioner...but for the body! You apply it at the end of your shower (after cleansing). You just massage it onto your skin and then rinse off. It leaves you so soft and moisturized. Actually, it leaves you so moisturized that you can skip moisturizer after your shower. I absolutely adore this body conditioner!!!

5. Avene's Gentle Body Scrub: This is the perfect pre-self tan scrub! It exfoliates very gently and rinses clean (you don't want any residue to interfere with your self tanner). It is gentle enough to use on your entire body. Plus, it smells so clean and refreshing!

6. Number 4 High Performance Hair Care Clarifying Shampoo: I adore Number 4 Hair Products. These high end French hair products are so luxurious! Until I tried this shampoo, I have never been one to clarify my hair as clairfying shampoos always seemed so over-drying. Well, this shampoo does not over dry nor strip my hair. I just cleanses deeply and removes all traces of product residue.

7. B. Kamins Laboratories Maple Sugar Body Scrub: This is a big tub of pure maple sugar combined with luxurious oils, antioxidants, and AHAs. Since this is an oily scrub, I only use it during night time showers as it does leave a bit of an oily residue on my skin (I don't mind that before bed, but I prefer not to have that oily feeling during the day). I mostly use this on my rougher areas like my elbows and heels. A little bit goes a long way. So, this huge tub will last me forever!

8. Ecru New York Sea Clean Shampoo: This freshly-scented daily shampoo does just what I need! It cleanses my hair completely without overdrying it. I leaves my hair bouncy and shiny. Plus, it has a great lather!

9. Ecru New York Protective Silk Conditioner: This thick and creamy conditioner detangles and conditions my hair in 60 seconds. It provides both protein and moisture to strengthen and soften my hair. Plus, it smells amazing!

10. Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor: I don't think that I could do a shower post without mentioning a product from ApHogee! This Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor has been a staple product in my shower for about 10 years. About once a week, I use this 2-Minute treatment after shampoo and before conditioner. This product has proteins and amino acids that penetrate deeply to help combat damage from highlights/color treatments. While not as effective (or as complicated) as my beloved ApHogee 2-Step Protein Treatment, this is still a great way to get protein into your hair on a weekly basis in a quick and easy way.

So, there you have it! The Top 10 Items in my Shower!!! :) I would love to hear about what shower products you are loving day-to-day!

Be sure to visit the links below to see what my fellow Top Ten Tuesday bloggers picked for their top Shower Items! :)

XOXO!!!

Think "Green" for Spring and St. Patty's Day with LUSH!
