Makeup Wars: Hair Styling Tools

It is time for another Makeup War! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are sharing their favorite tools for hair styling!

What are the Makeup Wars?
Before sharing my choices for hair tools, let me tell you a little bit about Makeup Wars in general. The Makeup Wars Bloggers are a group of top beauty bloggers that publish coordinated bi-weekly posts. The Makeup Wars bloggers collectively pick topics to blog about (e.g., Top 10 Products, Beauty Pampering, etc). Then, we publish our posts at precisely the same time and link up through the graphic links and thumbnails at the top and bottom of our posts. It is always a big surprise to scroll through the links from the group to see what everyone picked!

In my hair care routine, I rarely stray from my basic styling tools. Once I find something that works, I stick with it! With that said, I do like to discover new tools. If I read about a fabulous tool that someone else is using with my same hair length and type, I tend to try it out. Then, if I like that tool, I will add it to my routine or replace another tool with it.

My Hair:
My hair is super long and somewhat hard to manage. It is highlighted. So, it is dry and it tangles very easily. Plus, it is very thick and somewhat coarse. It is primarily straight. However, ever since my first pregnancy a couple years ago, I have some random wavy patches. Typically, I wash it every other day. When I wash it, I let it air dry about 50%. Then I blow dry with a paddle brush and then a large round brush to work the waves out. On occasion, I curl it with a wand or use a straightener to get it super sleek. Also, I like to use wet-sets to create no-heat curls. However, I will not include these no-heat tools in this post. If you all would like, I could do a no-heat series next? Let me know! :)

Some of my current favorite tools I have been using for years and others are new additions to my hair care routine. Do you want to see my picks? Click "read more" below to hear more!

My Everyday Favorite Hair Tools:
Aveda Paddle Brush: This is such a great paddle brush. I have literally been using this brush for 20+ years. I have replaced it 2 times. So, I am on my 3rd one. If my current one ever breaks, I will immediately purchase another. The Aveda Paddle Brush is the easiest brush to use when drying my very long and mostly straight hair. It never pulls nor tugs. It is just so easy to use and it works great! Not only is this the brush that I like to use when drying my hair, but also this is the brush that my hair stylists always grab when styling my hair at the salon. It just really works for my hair length and type. To finish off my hair drying/styling process, I use the BrushLab Thermal Round Jumbo Brush and the BrushLab Thermal Round Large Brush (see below).

BrushLab Thermal Round Jumbo Hair Brush: OMG! This brush is amazing!!! Honestly, I swear that this brush "changed my life" when it came to hair styling. It smooths out my hair so well that I honestly never really need to flat iron it. It gives fabulous volume and smoothness while drying your hair. It doesn't pull or tug. The ceramic barrel heats up with the heat of your dryer to style your hair. It is essentially everything that I want a jumbo round brush to be. It is enormous. However, I love it so much that I still travel with it (despite its huge size!). How I use it: Basically I air dry my hair and then blow dry it with a paddle brush until it is almost dry. Then I whip out this BrushLab Jumbo Round brush and finish off the top layers of my hair. I pull the hair through and wrap it around the brush and hold the brush in my hair for a bit to set it. It gives my long hair instant volume and just a bit of "bend" at the ends. Love, love, love the effect! I picked up this amazing brush a few years ago at Ulta. If it ever breaks, I will immediately replace it!

BrushLab Thermal Round Large Brush: Ah, yes, another brush from BrushLab! I use this brush for one purpose: my bangs! This is the quickest part of my hair drying/styling routine. I just blast a bit of warm dryer air on this brush while my bangs are bent around it. It gives my bangs just a bit of bend and volume. It takes two seconds and my bangs are done! Works great!!!

Revlon 1875 Professional Styler: A Hair Dryer is the ultimate basic to me. I use it every time I wash my hair. I don't need anything "fancy" when it comes to a dryer. I just need one that works! I picked up this one by Revlon a couple years ago at Ulta and it is still working just great. It is a tourmaline dryer that apparently emits negative ions that infuse moisture into your hair. I will likely use this until it quits and then buy another affordable dryer. That seems to be my general pattern with hair dryers.

ghd Professional Styler: When I want to flat iron my hair, I typically reach for my ghd Professional Styler (I use the limited edition peacock styler).  This flat iron is really amazing! It heats up super fast and glides through my hair really easily. The corners are rounded which allows for smoothing the ends (or curling). Now, I don't flat iron my hair often. This is something I do when I am either "going out" and want a super sleek look or when it is super humid outside and I need a humidity-proof style. My hair is already generally straight. I just have a few stray wavy pieces in the back. So, really, all I need to do when I flat iron is run the iron through the very top layer of my hair. It only takes me a couple minutes to use this ghd iron to style my hair.

NuMe's Reverse Curl Classic Wand: Have you ever tried a reverse curl wand? The barrel is bigger at the tip and taperingly slims down towards the handle. So, when you hold this wand inverted to your head to create your curls, your curls are slightly tighter at the top and looser at the bottom. I just love the effect! I actually just reviewed this wand recently. So, be sure to check out my NuMe Reverse Curl Wand review and tutorial!

Thanks so much for reading!!!

What a great assortment of tools. I like that you can do those beautiful curls or just wear it straight. Curls don't like me unfortunately.
