Maybelline Volum'Express One by One Mascara: Review

Doesn't it seem like I have been reviewing a lot of mascaras lately? Well, I will tell you why. While I generally tend to hold on to makeup for way longer than I should, mascara is an item that I frequently replace. Mascaras are notorious breeding grounds for bacteria. Also, My eyes are extremely sensitive. So, I want to make sure that my mascaras are nice and fresh! So, I stay on the safe-side and toss them often.

I would probably say that I use a mascara for the maximum of about 2 months. Therefore, I rarely (if ever) purchase high-end mascaras. That would just be too costly. I almost always go for BOGO deals at the drugstore combined with manufacturer's coupons. If I see a good deal on one of my fav mascaras, I grab it as I know I will need to replace whatever I am using soon. So, always be on the watch for those sales ya'll!!!

Okay, I digress! As ya'll know, my HG mascara is Cover Girl's Lash Blast Fusion (and I am a general fan of all the Lash Blast formulas). No matter whatever other mascara I am testing, I always have this great one on hand! To see my previous review, please click here. But this review today is for the Maybelline Volum'Express One by One Mascara. How do they compare?

For what I look for in a mascara, my review, etc please keep on reading!

Bath and Body Works: Secret Wonderland (love this scent!)

Hello there my lovely readers! Just here with a "quick rave" post for this lovely scent from Bath and Body works.

Bath and Body Work's Secret Wonderland is just such a refreshing scent! Funny, I gave so many of these little travel sized B&BWs lotions for Christmas gifts, that I was thrilled to receive this little set as a gift myself!

It smells of berries with just a touch of a vanilla or amber? for warmth. It is a nice change of pace from my "heavier" winter scents. I am really liking it! :)

I really like using scented lotions and fragrance mists for wear during the week and while at work. I save my heavier perfumes for going out in the evenings and on the weekends. I usually apply a Bath and Body works lotion after my shower in the mornings and then finish off with a Fragrance mist. Layering these products makes the scent longer-lasting (but not as long lasting as a perfume).

I really like the formulation of the body lotion! It is very light and non-greasy and it absorbs quickly. It leaves the skin nice and moisturized and scented. I prefer the richer creams for my hands and the drier parts of my skin (elbows, etc).

The Fragrance mist smells sooooo good (yummy!, lol!)! I have the travel size; and, I have actually found that I *prefer* the travel sized fragrance mists from Bath and Body Works over their usual full-sized bottles. I never seem to be able to use those up! Plus, the travel size is great for tossing in your purse to reapply and refresh your scent throughout the day. Since fragrance mists are mostly water, you really can keep refreshing throughout the day without feeling like your scent gets too heavy.

This is a great little set! I hope to get a bubble bath of this same scent soon!  I know that I am getting excited about some of the spring collection scents that are coming out like the new "Carried Away"! :) I am going to have to stop by BBW and try that soon!

Hope you enjoyed this quick post! What scents are you ladies loving lately? Any particular Bath and Body Works Favorites?

Hello my dear readers! Because I love all of you readers, I am so excited to announce a fabulous giveaway!

This giveaway is for one pair of shoes (of your choice) from the new Oka-b (Shoes that love You) Spring Collection!!!

Oka-b's are, hands-down, one of my favorite brands of flip flops and casual spring/summer shoes. Not only are they an awesome brand with cute styles of quality shoes, but the company is local to Atlanta, GA (my hometown) and one of my closest girlfriends is the VP of the company! So, I really couldn't love this brand any more!!! So, a big shout-out and thank you to Kelly and the PR team at Oka-b!!! :)

To share in the love up upcoming Spring Weather and cute shoes, Oka-b is sponsoring a giveaway for one free pair of flip flops from the new Spring Collection for one of my lucky readers!

Check out some photos from the new 2011 Spring Collection. These shoes are just gorgeous!!! Seriously, how stinkin cute are these!!! I love the new style "the Erin"! And the previous collection's Viv is just gorgeous!!!

Background on Oka-b's:
These shoes are amazing!!! I literally live in my Oka'bs!!! Cute, styish, environmentally friendly, and comfortable!!! Love, love, love em!!!

From my previous Oka-b review post, here are some interesting tidbits about these shoes:
  • They are eco-friendly: Made of 20% recycled materials. They are recyclable! Just send your old ones in to the company and they can grind them up to make new shoes!
  • The messaging foot bed is based on the principals of reflexology.
  • They are made of a microplast material that resists bacteria and is very easy to clean: actually, they are dishwasher safe!
  • The shoes smell like vanilla...seriously! It is some sort of by-product of their production. Even after washing and wearing, they are still vanilla scented! LOVE IT!
  • The shoes are very resistant to dirt...so, go ahead and go for those white flip-flops...they really will stay white!
  • Oka-b shoes are durable! I have been wearing this brand for about 2 years now and have yet to have a pair show any major wear.
  • All pairs retail between $20-$40: Available online at their website shoesthatloveyou.comor locally in fine spas and boutiques.
Be sure to check out more of the line on Oka-b's Shoes that Love You website and their Facebook Fan Page.

Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner and Serum

Hello my lovely readers! I am so excited about this new Physician's Formula Eyeliner!!! It's official, I have a new favorite liquid eyeliner with this product!!!

This review is for the Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner and Serum in the color Ultra Black. It retails for about $10.99 at CVS (Which, let's face it, is a pretty steep price for a drugstore makeup item). But, check around your local stores as mine was stickered with a "try for free" rebate sticker. So, for free, its totally worth a shot, right?!?!

And, yes, I know...another product promising "lash growth". I am such a sucker for these!!! (see my previous reviews for Revlon's Grow Luscious Mascara and Rimmel's Lash Accelerator Mascara). These lash growth products seem to be everywhere now! It is certainly a big trend!

Now, I really don't buy into the "hype" of these as I have not seen any results with any of the non-prescription formulas that I have tried. But, I wanted to try this liner none-the-less as it had a free rebate and I badly needed a new liquid liner! The promise of lash growth would be a "secondary" benefit for me. Plus, I admit, I was a bit intrigued by the package claims for growth as well as the promise of "24 hour Wear" (LOL, seriously??? Who wants or needs their liner to last that long!!! But, hey, I bet it wears well!).

According to the packaging, this product "Instantly & Visibly Boosts: Lash Length, Lash Volume, and Lash Thickness." Physician's Formula claims that the "lash boosting complex targets the root of the lashes where it is the most effective in providing nutrients associated with growing long, thick lashes". Check out the photo here of the back of the packaging and more claims. I must note that in the before/after photos the "before" pictures are of eyelashes without mascara and the "after" pictures show the eyelashes *with* mascara. So, yes, of course there would be a difference when one wears mascara!

So, do I love it??? Please keep reading for more photos and the review! :)

My love-affair with a brush: Sigma Flat Top Kabuki (F80) Makeup Brush Review

A kabuki love-affair (lol!)

Hello there my dear readers!

While I am a long-time makeup lover and beauty enthusiast, I am just beginning to delve into the usage of professional quality makeup brushes for makeup application. Anyone else out there like me in that regard?

I mean, I have a scattered assortment of some higher end brushes from lines like MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Smashbox. But, for the most part, my brush collection consists of drugstore/inexpensive brushes. I just haven't been able to bring myself to the point just yet of investing in a full set of professional brushes. I mean, can you imagine the cost of a full set of MAC or Bobbi Brown makeup brushes??? OMG, I just wouldn't be able to afford that, nor could I justify the expense when there are less expensive brushes on the market. Because, lets face it, while I am cosmetically inclined, I am not a professional makeup artist.

So, with that said, you can see why I am so excited about finding out about the Sigma line of makeup brushes!!! This line delivers extremely good quality professional caliber makeup brushes. According to everything I have read online or heard on YouTube, these brushes are totally comparable to higher end brands like MAC, but at a fraction of the cost! I would describe these as "mid price" brushes. They are not "cheap", but they are not expensive either. They seem to be a great value for a reasonable price.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still LOVE all my drugstore/inexpensive brushes. These have served me well for so many years. My collection of brushes is from brands like Ecotools, e.l.f., Essence of Beauty, Ulta, Sephora brand, and SpaResource. I will continue to use all of those! But, as I continue to "build" my brush collection, I would love to start adding some real professional caliber brushes from the Sigma brush line as I know those quality brushes will last me forever and will be a pleasure to use!

So, now, on to the review for the Sigma F80: The Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush (keep reading)!

My New Vanity Table (Photos and Video tour) and makeup area! :)

Hello my dear readers!!!

I am so excited that I am finally able to share with you my new Vanity Table and rearranged Vanity area!!!

Ya'll may remember this post where I was looking for vanity tables, or this post with my "old" setup. Well, this new setup is a VAST improvement! Previously, most of my makeup was in the bathroom in various cabinets and I would get ready there. Now, I have this lovely little area set up in the guest bedroom (that was previously an unused room in our home). I love it! Not only because it is my "beauty area" and it is just nice getting ready here in the mornings, but also just because I love having "personal space" in the home. It is just a "me" area where I can relax in the mornings with my coffee while getting ready!

So, I have snapped some photos for you and am going to take you on a video tour of the area! I honestly have never had such a nice set up! I am truely enjoying it!

For more photos and my video, please keep reading after the jump!

How much is your face worth? (Tag)

I saw this fun tag on Stavroula' blog, Drugstore and Bargain Lover, and thought it would be fun to do it too. The idea is that you write down the products that you use on your face on most days and how much they're worth. Now, I wear different makeup every day and the skincare varies as well. So, I decided to tally up what I am using today as of right now.

So, here it goes!

Skincare (am only listed):
Make-up:
  • Foundation: Maybelline FITme (testing this! review coming soon, $7.99)
  • Concealer: NARS vanilla stick, under eyes ($22)
  • Powder: Sonia Kashuk Barely There Loose Powder, Naked (I need to review this HG soon!!! $8.99)
  • Blush: NYC Blushable Creme Stick, Big Apple Blush ($3.99)
  • Highlighter : BeneFit Girl Meets Pearl (Review coming soon! $30)
  • Eyeshadow: Rimmel Colour Rush Quad, Smokey Purple (Review coming soon, $6.99)
  • Eyeliner: Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum, Ultra Black (Review coming soon as well! $10.99)
  • Eyeshadow primer: e.l.f. mineral eyeshadow primer ($3)
  • Mascara: Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara, Extreme Black ($7.49)
  • Lipgloss: Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15, Air Kiss ($13)
Total = $372.44 (Holy Moly, that adds up! Clearly the skincare is the splurge here!)

If you are reading this, consider yourself "tagged"!!! I don't normally publish comments that contain links, but for this post only, if you do this tag, leave a link so that I can check it out! :) I would love to see how we all compare!

Thanks for reading and stay beautiful!

Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream (review)

Hello my dear readers!

Anyone out there looking for an eye cream? I know that I am constantly searching for a good one! So, I am always trying out new eye creams and looking for "the one"! :)

My "Eye Background" and "What am I looking for in an eye cream?":
  • I have no major wrinkles or lines (yet!), but when my skin gets very dry, fine lines can form around the eye area. So, I need an eye cream that is nicely hydrating. I also don't have any issues with under eye bags or anything like that.
  • One of my main skincare and eye concerns is my issue with very dark under eye circles. I am plagued by these. Dark circles can be caused my many contributing factors. In my case, all factors are present: allergies, heredity, and general lack of sleep. I am a triple threat! A triumvirate of dark "circle-ness"! ;) Over the years, I have generally given up hope that an eye cream can actually treat or prevent dark circles. But part of me always hopes for a "miracle cure"!
  • Because of my dark circles, I need my eye creams to provide a rich and moisturized base for application of opaque concealers.
  • My eye area is VERY prone to milia. I need an eye cream that does NOT cause milia.
  • Also, my skin is very sensitive.
All my eye area skin concerns really limits my eye cream options! So many products out there irritate my sensitive skin or cause milia. So, I usually look for something really "basic". I just want a gentle cream that is hydrating and that provides a nice base for concealer. If there are added benefits like "anti-aging" or great ingredients, then that is just a bonus!

Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream:

According to the packaging and the website, the Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream "promotes collagen production while brightening the skin, eliminating dark circles, and reducing under eye puffiness". This product contains a vitamin C derivative (Ascorbyl Glucoside) which "lightens circles", Aescin which "improves circulation and puffiness", and Alpha Bisabalol which "accelerates cell healing and controls redness".

For my review on Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream, please keep reading after the jump!

Caudalie "Baume Gourmand Corps" Vine Body Butter

Caudalie "Baume Gourmand Corps" Vine Body Butter

Hello my beauties! Today I am reviewing Caudalie's "Baume Gourmand Corps" Vine Body Butter. As you all know, this cold winter weather aggravates my dry skin, so I am all about the body butters lately!

Caudalie is a luxury brand born out of a tradition of wine making in France. The founders discovered that the grape by-products from the production of wine were super rich in antioxidants. Theses antioxidants are incorporated into their skincare line. As the wife of a Certified Wine Specialist and a personal lover of wine, the Caudalie brand is highly appealing!!!

Background info on the Caudalie Brand: Wine Inspired Skincare!

Co-founder of the brand, Mathide Thomas, comes from the Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte (Bordeaux) family of winemakers. After discovering that grape seeds that are thrown away after harvest are rich in polyphenolds (powerful free radical traps), the inspiration for the Caudalie brand was born.

The Caudalie brand believes "Everything is Good in the Grape" for your skin (condensed info from the Caudalie website):

  • Grapeseeds: Grape seeds contain powerhouse polyphenol antioxidants (website states that polyphenols are "10,000 times more powerful that Vitamin E in combating free radicals). Also, rapeseed oil is very hydrating.
  • Grape Pulp: Grape pulp is found to be rich in "Oligo-Elements" (not sure what this means, lol, but it sounds good!).
  • Grape Stalk and Stems: These contain Resveratrol which is another antioxidant which "stimulates cell multiplication".
  • The Blossom: Can be used as a scent.
I must say, I am quite intrigued!!! As a wine lover and a product enthusiast, this merges two of my greatest interests! To read more background information, be sure to check out the Caudalie Website here. This is my first review in a series of upcoming Caudalie reviews. I will also be testing out and reviewing some facial skincare products from the Caudalie line (but will be testing those at length before posting reviews, stay tuned!!!).

And now, on to the review! Please keep reading after the jump! :)

February Birchbox: Box Opening and "first impressions" (haul)

Hello Beauties! Can you believe it is that time again, yes, my February Birchbox just arrived!!! So, here is my monthly Birchbox haul/first impressions post! As always, Birchbox has outdone themselves with another fab box of deluxe samples. To see my January Birchbox, please read here.

Basic summary of how Birchbox works:

Birchbox is a online members-only luxury beauty company. They offer a sample "subscription" for $10 per month or you can sign up for a 3 or 6 month or 1 year subscription (prices vary). With a subscription your get a monthly "Birchbox" which contains 4-5+ Deluxe sized samples of high end products. Each box seems to have a theme and they come wrapped beautifully! It is like getting a present every month! The boxes contain a card which explains the month's theme and describes the products you get!

When you join, you create a beauty profile with specifics about what you are looking for in your products, your skin type, etc. This way your Birchbox can be customized to your preferences, coloring, skin type, etc. Perfect! I have checked out what some other friends have gotten and the boxes truly do differ slightly depending on what you like. Very personalized.

The boxes are just super classy! Not only do I love it for myself, but it would be great to give someone as a gift! I think any beauty or product lover would get a kick out of these monthly boxes. The samples vary in size, but overall I think they are very generous! You are definitely getting more than your money's worth here. High end treats for $10 per month! What a nice splurge!

Another bonus, the website has fabulous tips for using the specific items in your Birchbox! After testing out the products, you can rate them on the website and gain loyalty points that can accumulate for money off your purchase of full sized products. If you want to order a full sized product of something in your Birchbox, you can order it with free shipping (and will gain more loyalty points). I am really enjoying the actual Birchbox website, it has not only shopping and tips about your particular samples, but also great general beauty tips. Its a fun site to visit, browse, and read! I am so happy I signed up and am continuing to love the Birchboxes, samples, and general member benefits (like gaining points and having full access to the website).

So, now on to the February box!!!

New 2011 Wet n' Wild Color Icon 8-pan Palettes: Reviews and Swatches

New 2011 Wet n' Wild Color Icon 8-pan Palettes: Petal Pusher, Blue Had Me at Hello, and Comfort Zone

Hello Beauties!!! I am so excited about these new 2011 Wet n' Wild Color Icon 8-pan palettes!!!

Wet n' Wild has continued to "step up their game" with their amazing 2011 collection. Their 2010 6-pan palettes were fabulous (see previous reviews for: Lust, Pride, Sugar Plum Fairy, Golden Goddess, Snow Sprite, and Night Elf). Will these new 8-pans be just as good??? Well, it sure seems as if they are!

In my area, from what I can tell, the new 8-pans have *replaced* the old 6-pans from the permanent collection. I have mixed feelings about this. While I love the new palettes, it's too bad that the others will no longer be available! So, if you happen upon the old 6-pan ones, and you like them, then you probably want to go ahead and purchase before they are out of stock and impossible to find. My Walgreen's is now displaying the new 8-pans in the same place where the 6-pans were found (as in, there is no longer even a slot, nor price sticker, for the old palettes).

So, with our further ado, on to the review! This review is for the whole collection: (736) Petal Pusher, (737) Blue Had Me At Hello, and (738) Comfort Zone.

For photos, review, swatches, etc...please keep reading after the jump!

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Valentine's presents (Sephora haul), gifts, etc

Happy Valentine's Day to my beautiful readers!!!

Just a quick post to let ya'll know how much I love and appreciate you *all*!!! Thanks so much for joining me on my blogging journey!!!

My husband and I have been celebrating Valentine's day all weekend! I feel so lucky to be married to the best man ever!!!

After work on Friday, a dozen Red Roses were waiting for me...complete with a talking "Twilight" Valentines Day card (lol, love it!!! Does the Hub know me or what!?!?). Friday night we wanted to have a movie "date night" with a romantic comedy (one of my fav genres). So, we went to see "No Strings Attached" with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. OMG, it was LOL funny and so good! (yes, I now have an Ashton Kutcher crush as well, tee hee!).

Going shopping! :)

Saturday was our "Valentine's Day"! We went shopping, exchanged some gifts, and had a romantic evening at home (all the food was prepared by my Hub Erik, he rocks with the cooking! LOVE a man that cooks!!!). Erik totally spoiled me this year! So, I am sharing some photos of my gifts: Roses, Twilight card (see above), Michele watch (wow!), and he took me to Sephora to pick out a Clarisionic!!!

Here we are about to enjoy our dinner (and notice Erik on his new Macbook Air, his V-day gift!).

Here are some V-day treats (Lush!) that I am going to give my Mom. We are heading over to my parent's house today for a little Valentine's Day lunch. :)

I hope ya'll have a great V-day!!! XOXO!!!
