Dark Circles...if I was to name my #1 Beauty "problem" it would be my dark circles. I am not talking about minor dark circles here. My dark circles are terrible! I have very fair skin and my dark circles are very dark purple. Plus, I also have redness and pinkness in my eye area, too. 

My dark circles arise from a variety of causes: general lack of sleep and occasional insomnia, allergies, and heredity. I know that many of these things can not be changed. I was really just destined to have dark circles. So, needless to say, under eye concealer is my best beauty friend. Because, who likes to have people tell them all the time that "you look tired"! Seriously! 

When it comes to beauty products, I really do not expect any miracles with an eye cream. If my dark circles were minor and from non-hereditary causes, then yes, I might expect more. However, I just know that some of these issues can not be resolved with an eye cream. With that said, when a product does promise to help with dark circles, then I do expect to see some result...even if it is only minor.

So, needless to say, I was excited to try out the Shiseido White Lucent Anti-Dark Circle Eye Cream. It promises to help with your dark under eye circles by targeting two major causes of purple and brown dark circles: pigmentation and poor microcirculation. Now, I don't have brown dark circles, but I do have blue dark circles and red/pink dark circles. 

Besides help with dark under eye circles, I am also drawn to eye creams that boost hydration, minimize fine lines, and have anti-aging benefits. Plus, I want an eye cream that does not irritate my sensitive eyes.

My Results:

I have been using this Shseido White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream for a few weeks now and honestly really do like it. 

So, big question...are my dark circles diminished? Well, somewhat. As I mentioned earlier, I honestly do not expect any big miracles when it comes to dark circle improvement with an eye cream. So, my results were not very noticeable...but, I am still pleased. What I did notice was some "surface lightening" of the skin. So, this certainy did "brighten" my eye area. However, my dark circles really seem to come from deep within the skin. So, my dark circles are still very dark. But, like I said, I am still pleased. Even just a surface lightening did liven up my eyes and brighten the area. 

As far as other results, I am very pleased! This cream is super luxurious to apply. It sinks right in and feels lovely when applied. The packaging is gorgeous, too! Plus, this cream did not irritate my sensitive skin. I find the cream to be super hydrating. So, fine lines are diminished from the hyrdating effect. 

I do wish that this cream contained some anti-aging ingredients as that is important to me in an eye cream. So, I am currently using this eye cream in the mornings and I am using a Retinol eye cream at night for the anti-aging benefits of Retinol. 

Overall, if you are looking for an eye cream to have a slight impact on your dark circles and to give your eye area a great boost of hydration, then you should certainly check out Shiseido's White Lucent Anti-Dark Circle Eye Cream. I am really liking it and will continue to use it!

Finding the perfect concealer is a constant search for me. Actually, the discovery of a really great high-coverage concealer is one of the moments that first sparked my interest in makeup all those years ago.

Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream (review)

Hello my dear readers!

Anyone out there looking for an eye cream? I know that I am constantly searching for a good one! So, I am always trying out new eye creams and looking for "the one"! :)

My "Eye Background" and "What am I looking for in an eye cream?":

• I have no major wrinkles or lines (yet!), but when my skin gets very dry, fine lines can form around the eye area. So, I need an eye cream that is nicely hydrating. I also don't have any issues with under eye bags or anything like that.

• One of my main skincare and eye concerns is my issue with very dark under eye circles. I am plagued by these. Dark circles can be caused my many contributing factors. In my case, all factors are present: allergies, heredity, and general lack of sleep. I am a triple threat! A triumvirate of dark "circle-ness"! ;) Over the years, I have generally given up hope that an eye cream can actually treat or prevent dark circles. But part of me always hopes for a "miracle cure"!

• Because of my dark circles, I need my eye creams to provide a rich and moisturized base for application of opaque concealers.

• My eye area is VERY prone to milia. I need an eye cream that does NOT cause milia.

• Also, my skin is very sensitive.

All my eye area skin concerns really limits my eye cream options! So many products out there irritate my sensitive skin or cause milia. So, I usually look for something really "basic". I just want a gentle cream that is hydrating and that provides a nice base for concealer. If there are added benefits like "anti-aging" or great ingredients, then that is just a bonus!

Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream:

According to the packaging and the website, the Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream "promotes collagen production while brightening the skin, eliminating dark circles, and reducing under eye puffiness". This product contains a vitamin C derivative (Ascorbyl Glucoside) which "lightens circles", Aescin which "improves circulation and puffiness", and Alpha Bisabalol which "accelerates cell healing and controls redness".

Color Theory and Dark Undereye Circles: The Science of Color Correction and Pixi Correction Concentrate review!

Hello there lovely readers and blog followers! :)

This blog post is the 2nd in a series of (I am sure many) articles devoted to covering dark under eye circles. I am a girl who is plagued by *very* dark under eye circles. We are talking black and blue looking dark circles from heredity, allergies, and generally not ever getting enough sleep. I have very fair skin, so that also emphasizes the circles.

If you have read my other article Covering Dark Under Eye Circles: My Top 5 Concealers, then you know that I have been on quite the quest for good circle coverage. Consider this post a continuation of the previous article as I would like to add a great new product that I have recently found, Pixi Correction Concentrate to my list of top under eye concealers for *serious* dark circles.


Lets Talk Color Theory

From what I understand of color theory, colors opposite each other on the color wheel are complementary colors. Complementary colors bring out the "best" in the other color. For example, my eyes are blue, so peach eye shadows really make my blue eyes "pop" and look *very* blue. So, complementary colors next to each other make the other look "brighter". Complementary colors also do interesting things when  they are brought together or layered over each other: they can "cancel out" the other color.

So, since we are talking about my dark circles, which are blue-based, a peach/orange tint would be best used to cover the dark circle. If the dark circles are more "purple" a yellow based concealer could be helpful. So, take some time to inspect your dark circles to help you find where on the color wheel your circles fall. In other areas of your face, you might want to look at redness and consider a green-based concealer to counteract that.

Concealers based on "color correction" or color theory tend to be of medium coverage (so not totally opaque) to allow the color theory to "work". This is good for the under eye area as you do not want a "heavy" concealer in the under eye area as this would only look cakey and dry (which would emphasize any dryness or fine lines). So, no need to "pile on" this concealer. Just apply a small amount, and let "Color Theory" do its magic on you!

What else am I looking for in an under eye concealer?

From what I have learned from various sources, including the fabulous Makeup Geek, the best formulation of under eye concealers is gel-based. These are typically found in jars. How can you tell if the concealer is gel based? According to the MakeupGeek, it has a slight shiny "sheen" to it. This texture is great for under eye as it is not too heavy, it is easy to spread and blend, and it doesn't settle into fine lines. Texture is *key* for the under eye area. What works on the rest of your face will likely not work under your eyes. Your under eye skin is very delicate and of very different texture than the rest of your face.

Rave for Benefit's Erase Paste

As you all know from my previous Covering Dark Under Eye Circles: My Top 5 Concealers article, I really love BeneFit's Erase Paste Concealer. I will not go in depth here, as I already did in that article. But, I do want to add that BeneFit's Erase paste is a gel based concealer with with peach tones to counteract dark circles. So, it is perfect for the under eye area. I do love this concealer, but is quite pricey. A little goes a long way, so you are getting good value for the higher price. A little jar will last you a long time with this one.

Pixi Correction Concentrate: Brightening Peach: (total rave!!!)

So, now on to my new review! I was delighted to stumble across Pixi's Correction Concentrate when browsing at Target a few weeks ago. This is the first item that I have ever tried from the Pixi line. I was happy to see that it was a similar looking formula to BeneFit's Erase Paste as far as texture and at a much less expensive price (I believe it was $14.99).

• Pixi's Correction concentrate is a very thick and concentrated (hence the name, lol!) gel based product. It only takes a tiny amount of product to cover dark circles. This product is *highly* pigmented.

• I apply directly to under eye area with concealer brush and blend in.

• The wonderful texture of this product allows it to just "melt" into your skin. Seriously! Great texture! Leaves a slightly dewy finish.

• I like to set this concealer with a loose powder (I like either Sonia Kashuk translucent loose powder or BeneFit Powderflage). This product will last all day when set with a nice loose powder.

• Great brightening effect! You get concealing and brightening in one step with this great product! Just a touch of this concealer will instantly camouflage dark circles! You will just look healthy, fresh, and awake with this! :)

• This formula packs in "good for your skin" ingredients such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and rosehips.

• The packaging expresses that this product is like "10 hour sleep in a jar"...and, I gotta tell you, you will look more rested with this product covering those dark circles! :)

• This small little jar will last you a LONG time as it is so concentrated.

Comparison of BeneFit's Erase Paste in Fair and Pixi Correction Concentrate in Bright Peach 

Pixi's Correction concentrate is somewhat similar BeneFit's Erase Paste (as they are both under eye brightening correctors with a gel-like base). However, I find that side by side they look totally different with the Pixi being darker and *more peach*. I do wonder if the darker shades of the BeneFit might be more similar to the Pixi? My camera flash kinda "whited out" the Erase Paste in the photo above. But, you can clearly see that the Pixi is way more peach-toned. 

Also, The pigmentation in the Pixi seems denser and has a dewier or glossier look to it. I must say, I really do like the Pixi better! I think the coverage is better! :) And, its cheaper! So, score!!! When I bought the Pixi I was thinking "oh, this is like my BeneFit Erase Paste", but upon getting it home and really comparing...they are really very different products. 

I must note that the BeneFit Erase Paste comes in 3 colors and the Pixi Correction Concentrate in one color. I find that both the Pixi and the BeneFit Erase Paste in Fair work well with coordinating with my my very fair skin tone (MAC NC 15). Especially since I only apply these products to the "blue" part of my under eye circles.

Okay, I digress...back to the Pixi! :) 

Overall, I think that the Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach is a great product!!! Great price and very similar to the, more expensive, BeneFit erase paste. I like this product so much that I am intrigued by the rest of Pixi's line. Plus, I love the convenience of being able to buy nice, "higher end" products at a store like Target (where the Pixi line is sold).

Both the Pixi Correction Concentrate and the BeneFit Erase Paste will give you the fantastic concealing benefits of Color Theory by "erasing" your dark blue circles with the complementary peach color!
