Decorative Accents with CommercialSilk

After moving into a new house two months ago, we are finally getting settled! Almost all the moving boxes are finally unpacked. Now on to the fun part: decorating! 

Since we increased the size of our living space, we have a lot of empty corners and spaces in our house and, yes, even an empty room. Over time, we will fill our spaces with the furnature and decor that not only serves its purpose but also that fits within our design esthetic. So, I am really taking my time with adding pieces. I don't simply want to fill the space. I want to add items that I genuinely love ! 

Now, our "empty room" is the dining room in the front of the house. Now, it isn't totally empty...we just don't have a dining room table. The room has a couple chairs, a bar, and a wine refrigerator, and wine-related framed art on the walls. I don't know a lot about design and decorating "rules" however, I do feel that every room should have a green plant and also something shiny (like a mirror). 

I was so excited when CommercialSilk, a wholesale provider of silk plants, approached me to review a product of my choice from their related retail platform SilkPlantsDirect.com. As much as I love real plants, having a silk plant or two in the mix really works adding a special touch to your home decor. As I mentioned, I do have a lot of empty space in my house. A silk plant or tree can really perk up the look of the room! 

I picked out a gorgeous 5-foot Mini Bougainvillea Topiary tree. Let me tell ya'll, this tree is gorgeous! It is exactly like it is pictured on the website. The item shipped to me super fast (arrived within 2-days I believe). The tree arrived packaged very well in a large/tall box. The quality of the plant is very nice. The tree has a nice heavy base. After opening the box, I simply fluffed out the leaves and put it in the corner in the dining room. There is no question, the tree looks beautiful in the space and I am absolutely thrilled with it!

Get the Look: Project Runway Jr's Winning Look Episode 6, Firefighting Clients

I just love sharing "Get the Look" posts...especially when the looks come from one of my favorite TV Shows: Project Runway Jr! 

A couple weeks ago, on Project Runway Junior, the models walked their looks straight off the catwalk and into the arms of their fire-fighting husbands! The emerging designers were tasked with creating date night looks for real women. The winning look was hot, hot, hot and left the model feeling confident as she made her runway debut on national television.

Celebrity makeup artist Scott Patric created a gorgeous nude glow to complement the winning design, with butter LONDON’s Glazen Eye Gloss in Spark taking center stage. The final look highlighted the model’s natural features with a subtle contour and glossy nude lips, letting the fiery dress do all the talking. The makeup look is fresh, natural and easy to wear both day and night, dressed up or dressed down.

I got to try out a few makeup items from this look, and I am so impressed! This butterLONDON bronzer palette is gorgeous and so versatile! The lipstick is a perfect YLBB (your lips but better) shade and the gloss is the perfect topper! I love wearing the items from this look!

Season 2 of Project Runway Junior airs Thursdays at 9pm EST/PST on Lifetime. It is an awesome show! Be sure to check it out. I always get so inspired with the fashions, the styling, and the makeup...not to mention: the talent of the contestants!

My love affair with essential oils continues! 

Recently, I had a DIY afternoon creating some soothing and stress-relieving products for my evening relaxation/pampering routine! I can't wait to share my ideas and recipes with you today. :) 

I am so inspired by essential oils. I am a big believer that essential oils work for not only aromatherapy, but also for impactful change for your environment and for your overall health and emotional wellbeing. I turn to essential oils for stress-reduction, for cleaning, to alleviate symptoms of cold/flus, for stomach upset (Note: Not to take internally. Just topical applications), to elevate mood, to enhance the environment for sleep, and so much more! I even use kid-safe essential oils with my children! I love reading and researching about essential oils and learning more about what essential oils can do for you. Honestly, I am having so much fun as I learn and explore.

I know that there are a lot of expensive essential oils out there. Essential oil prices vary widely from brand-to-brand and even from oil-to-oil. Some oils are simply more expensive to produce. I have found that some brands' oils seem to be over priced. I am generally a believer that you get what you pay for. However, I am thrilled that I have found some *amazing* 100% pure essential oils for really fantastic prices. I think the key is to go with trusted brands. 

The Vitamin Shoppe has some really fantastic essential oils from their store brand oil line. I have tried a variety including Lemon, Clove, Lavender, and Cedarwood.  All of these oils are in heavy rotation in my home for everything from cleaning, to diffusing, to diluting and applying topically. Lavendar and Cedarwood are my newest Vitamin Shoppe additions to my essential oil collection and I just LOVE them!

Essential Oils for a Soothing Bedtime Routine:

I especially love diffusing a combination of Lavender and Cedarwood for sleep! I just add 2-3 drops lavendar and 1 drop cedarwood to my diffuser (beside) and diffuse all night. The scent is beautiful and it really helps me to fall asleep and stay asleep all night. 

Besides diffusing essential oils for sleep, I also love adding essential oils into my bedtime relaxation routine. Essential oils can be added to your bedtime lotion for a sleep blend, added to your bath in the form of bath salts or a bath oil, or added to a foot bath for a soothing bedtime foot soak.

Essential Oil DIY Recipes:

I have been having so much fun with my oily DIY projects. I am always collecting ideas and getting inspired. If you are not already, please follow my Pinterest Essential Oil idea board.

Bedtime Footbath for Tired Feet:

I got a plug-in massaging Foot Bath for Christmas. So, I am very inspired to create essential oil blends and products to use in my new foot bath!!! 

8T Baking Soda

15 drops Lavender

15 drops Cedarwood

Add a few pumps Sweet Almond Oil (or other carrier oil)

I also like to add in some Epsom Salts in the warm water when I am filling up my Footbath tub. 

Bedtime Bath Salts with Lavender and Cedarwood Essential Oils:

Add 10 Drops Essential Oils (I did 5 Lavender and 5 Cedarwood: but you can add any Essential Oil you like)

2 T Baking Soda

2 oz Epsom Salts

My bedtime routine is not complete without a relaxing cup of herbal tea! My latest favorite is Pukka Night Time tea from The Vitamin Shoppe. It is a dreamy blend of organic oat flower, lavender, and limeflower.

Makeup Wars: Facial Oils

It is time for another Makeup Wars! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are discussing their favorite facial oils. I am *so excited* about this topic. As ya'll know, I am obcessed with skincare. My interest in finding the very best skincare for my skin is the driving force behind my blog. 

My Skin:

Before diving into my favorite facial oils, lets talk quickly about my skin type. I have combination skin. My skin does fluxuate. Right now I am leaning more combination/oily. My skin is also somewhat sensitive and slightly prone to breaking out about once a month on my chin or near my nose. Also, I somethings get clogged pores. Since I am not getting any younger, lol, I am also interested in effective anti-aging skincare. 

After many years of avoiding oils in skincare products for fear of breaking out, I learned that certain oils are really beneficial for your skin. There is certainly a facial oil movement within the skincare world. Facial Oils have really gained in popularity for a reason: they work and have such great impact on your skin! Just a drop or two of oil after your usual skincare routine can give your skin a tremendous boost of nourishment and moisture! In addition, using oils as a mix in can really work wonders, too. Afraid of leaving an oil to sit on your skin, then you could try "getting your oil" by using a cleansing oil that you rinse off. 

There are honestly so many oils that I love (too many to list here). So, today I am going to focus on sharing my current favorites. Adding an oil to your skincare routine is one of the best ways to get a fantastic anti-aging, moisturizing, and skin-smoothing "boosts"!

My Current Favorite Facial Oils:

Kiehl's | Midnight Recovery Concentrate: 
This amazing (and 99.8% naturally derived) oil works to regenerate, replenish, and restore your skin overnight. I am currently using this oil every night as the final step in my skincare routine. I have used this oil off-and-on for a few years (in between testing out other products for this blog) and it is always something that I come back to. I use just one to two drops. I drop the oil onto my fingertips and then pat it across my skin hitting key areas where I seem to get fine lines. The herbal scent of this oil is so soothing for bedtime. There is just something "magical" about this oil! Whenever I don't use it, I can tell that my skin just dosn't look quite its best. It allows me to wake up in the mornings with skin that is a bit more hydrated and plump and smoothed. I love how this oil really sinks into your skin.

Key ingredients include: Evening Primrose Oil, Lavender Oil, and Squalene. A 1 oz bottle retails for $46.00. However, I must note: this bottle will last you forever when you only use 1-2 drops a night! I just love Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate and give it my highest recommendation!!!

Nude Skincare | ProGenius Treatment Oil: 
Now, I got my bottle of Nude Skincare ProGenius Treament Oil a few years ago and really can now only find it online on Amazon. So, I believe this ProGenius Treatment Oil was either replaced with or renamed as Sephora's Nude Skincare ProGenius Firming Youth Oil. If anyone knows any details about this product, please be sure to let me know in the comments! Anyways, this oil has lasted me for a few years because I only use one drop in the mornings.

How I Use:
I add one drop of this oil to my dollop of sunscreen/moisturizer that I apply to my face in the mornings. This gives my sunscreen/moisturizer a boost! It allows it to apply better and leaves my skin more hydrated and smooth than when I leave the oil out. I especially do this in the Winter months when my skin is more dehydrated. You can also add a drop of this oil to your liquid foundation for the same type of effect if you would rather. I love the hydrating and skin-smoothing benefits of applying the oil this way. This oil is rich in antioxidants! So, you really are getting a protective and anti-aging boost in addition to adding essential oil and moisture to your skin. I just love this stuff!

Key Ingredients: Apricot kernel oil and meadowfoam seed oil (moisturizers); camelina (redness reducer); sea buckthorn and macadamia oil (skin smoothers). Retails for $78.00. 

L'Occitane Divine Youth Oil:
When it comes to luxury skincare, L'Occitane is one of my favorite brands! I adore the whole Divine skincare collection from L'Occitane and this decadent oil is no exception. The Divine collection products all contain ingedients derived from the Immortelle flower. This flower is legendary because of it's longevity: it never fades, even after it has been picked. The L'Occitane Divine Youth Oil contains Immortelle Essential Oil which is rich in anti-aging active properties.

This oil is so nourishing! I like using it at night as a final step in my skincare routine. I either tap on 1-2 drops of oil or mix it in with a nighttime moisturizer. It really works to smooth fine lines and refine tone and overall appearance of my skin. I adore it!

LipSense molecularly bonds with your lips. You really get a "2nd skin" type lip color. The beautiful color and 18 hour wear is really impressive!

I was able to try out two shades of the LipSense Lip Colors. Of course, now I am dying to try out more shades!

LipSense products have really revolutionized the way that I wear lip color. As a busy stay-at-home Mom with two young kids, I really don't have time to "fuss" with lip color. Usually, I applied traditional lip color and it would simply wear off and then look like I had nothing on. Well, with LipSense, I apply and then don't even have to think about it the rest of the day. I just know that my lip color is on and that it still looks just as perfect as it did the moment that I first applied. It is kiss proof and smudge proof! I sure do kiss my kids a lot during the day and I don't have to worry about color transfer! If my lips get dry at all during the day, I simply re-apply the gloss top coat.

I think that the key to loving LipSense Lip Colors is to have correct application. Correct application is key to getting the product to work for you! I can't stress this enough.

I must note, when you first apply, you will feel a slight tingling on your lips. This concerned me until I learned that this was supposed to happen and it is happening because of the SD 40 alcohol content in the product. SD 40 alcohol is added to the product to prevent bacteria. It is a very pure alcohol. It evaporates quickly and the tingling sensations goes away in seconds.

Application Tips:
If you follow these tips precisely, you will be awarded with beautiful performance from your LipSense products! These tips must be followed exactly...but, it is not compicated! It is just very different from the way you would apply traditional lipstick and lipgloss.

• You must start with clean and dry lips when using LipSense. I like to use a slightly damp wash cloth to wipe off my lips. Then I pat dry with a towel. 
• You apply 3 thin layers of product. 
• When apply color layers, do not swipe back and forth (this will remove what you just applied). Apply in one direction in a smooth motion. 
• Let color dry completely (3-4 seconds) in between applying each color layer. 
• Do not let lips touch when applying layers.
• Finish by topping off with the LipSense Lipgloss. 

I got to try out two shades of LipSense Lip Color: Luv It (beautiful peachy pink): this one is my favorite of the two. It is a gorgeous and very wearable everyday shade. Pink Ice (a bright and cheerful Barbie pink). There are 70 shades available. So, I know that you will find many colors that you want to try. Believe me, I have a whole list of colors I am dying to try, lol!

To remove LipSense, simply apply the Ooops! Remover which works to remove your LipSense lip color at the end of the day or you can use it to fix any errors when you are applying the product.
