Lets talk sun safety today! As you guys may know, sun safety is a topic near and dear to my heart...especially when it comes to sun safety for the whole family. I live in the Atlanta, GA area where it is hot and sunny this time of year. So, needless to say, sunscreen is essential. However, I don't view sun saftey as a seasonal topic. Sun saftey is something to be practiced year round! Even when it is cloudy or cold, those sun rays are still coming through.
Labor Day certainly is a day to be in the sun! I am sure that many of you have Labor Day plans centered around pool-time, outdoor fun, picnics, relaxing at the lake, or if you are super lucky...you are at the beach! What a great time to discuss sun safety with your children and put smart sun saftey practices into effect. I know that I will be spending plenty of time outdoors this labor day...and you know that I will be making sure that I am protected with SPF everywhere that I need it!
Practice Sun Saftey:
Not only can the sun burn you, but it can cause cancer if we do not protect ourselves. There is a history of skin cancer in my family. So, I take this very seriously. My Dad has had countless basal cell carcinomas removed. I inherited his fair skin that is very prone to burning. So, I know that I am at risk for skin cancer, too. Also, I lost a very dear friend to Melanoma a few years ago. She was only 30 and spent her sunny summers at the lake. Because of my Dad and my friend, I get annual skin cancer screenings and I am very diligent about sunscreen application. Skin Cancer is preventable. We must protect ourselves with suitable SPF and practice overall sun safety by seeking shade, avoiding peak times in the sun, and wearing hats. The great news is that there are fantastic sunscreen options available right at your local drugstore from Neutrogena. !
For my family, daily use of sunscreen is just part of our routine. I apply products containing SPF in the mornings right after my shower to all areas that will be exposed...no matter what my plans are for the day, I know that I have a layer of SPF every day. If I am outdoors, I apply an additional layer as needed. For my kids, applying SPF before going out to play is just part of their routine. They inherited my fair skin and are also prone to burning if not protected. I also have taught them to seek shade when they can and thankfully they like wearing hats!
While it is scary that skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, we can be glad that it is preventable! We can protect ourselves from skin cancer by using daily sun protection (reguardless of the weather or our daily plans) and practicing overall sun safety. We can do this not only for ourselves, but for our whole family!

SPF options from the Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® and Beach Defense® lines:
Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® Sunscreen line:
NEUTROGENA® ULTRA SHEER® sunscreens offer superior sun protection and skincare benefits in one elegant formulation. The NEUTROGENA® heralded Dry-Touch technology instantly absorbs excess oils and leaves skin feeling soft, clean and fresh—never greasy or ghostly white. What’s more, the sunscreen is non-comedogenic and water and sweat-resistant, so it won’t clog pores and run into eyes.
Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® and Beach Defense® line:
Neutrogena® knows that beach days are meant to be carefree—free from sunburns and protection from harmful UV rays. That’s why the NEUTROGENA® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreens are made large enough for face and body usage for the whole family and powerful enough to protect them from the sun’s most damaging effects.
One factor that affects the permeability of the skin’s barrier, making skin more susceptible to UV rays, is prolonged contact of the skin with water in the pool, at the beach, or simply by prolonged sweating. The Neutrogena® Beach Defense™ Sunscreen line formulated with HELIOPLEX® Technology forms a broad spectrum UVA and UVB protective barrier that is clinically proven to help skin defend against harsh summer elements.
Ideal for active families, the NEUTROGENA® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreen line includesspray and lotion forms that absorb quickly into face and body, without the greasy residue that you may feel when using some other sunscreens.
Here are some of my current favorites from these two sunscreen lines from Neutrogena®:
- Neutrogena® Beach Defense® Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30: This is an all-around great sunscreen with an awesome fresh scent and a nice feel on the skin. Plus, it is water resistant for 80 minutes. You can't go wrong with this one!
- Neutrogena® Beach Defense® Sunscreen Lotion SPF 70: This product has all the great features listed above for the SPF 30 version...but this one packs an impressive SPF 70. I tend to grab this one when we are at the pool or lake for a longer amount of time in peak hours.
- Neutrogena® Beach Defense® Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+: Can I just tell you how much I like sunscreen sticks! Nothing beats the convienience of a stick. You just swipe it on! Even my kids don't mind when I apply sunscreen stick on them. This one packs an SPF of 50. Great waterproof protection!
- Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® Liquid Sunscreen SPF 70: If you are looking for a super high coverage SPF for your face, then look no further than this one. SPF 70 is just about the highest SPF I have ever seen for a facial sunscreen. Even though it has high coverage, it has a super light feel and works great under makeup!
- Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® Face & Body Stick Sunscreen SPF 70: As you know from my Beach Defense® comments, I love sunscreen sticks. This one is formulated for both the face and the body. So, this is the sunscreen stick that I whip out for our faces. I always feel like I need extra protection on my nose when I am in the sun. So, this is a super quick way to reapply during the day. I just swipe a bit more on my nose to boost my coverage.

No sun burns in this family! My hubby and teen are red heads so fair skinned. Due to diligent sunscreen use, my teen has NEVER had a sunburn on my watch!!! I am at risk for melanoma so we all cover up!

Sun safety is important because skin cancer is one of the most common types and cancer and it's preventable.
Protecting my skin from harmful sun exposure is key to maintaining its beauty and health. That's why SPF is a key part of my daily regimen.
I learned many years ago that the sun was not my friend. So I always use and reapply. And I am remind family friends to do so to. Also I like that app they have now
After battling skin cancer, I'm extra cautious always now!

nothing kills the skin's youth of as fast as sun , so suncare is a priority
It is important to us because we are all fair skinned and burn easily
Sun safety is important to me because my grandmother passed away after a battle with melanoma. I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma when I was 19. I haven't had any other problems since then, but now I am sure to protect myself and my family when we go outside!

I have had many, many basal skin cancers removed. I now live in Florida, and I spend less time in the sun than when I lived up north. I have to wear skin protection all the time!
we have a pool so sun safety is important to protect our skin since we spend so much time in it
Sun safety is important to me because I have photo sensitive skin. The sun burns my skin faster than the average bear.
It is very important to protect our skin by using the right products so we won't get skin cancer
Safety is important to me because I want to prevent skin cancer.
Skin sun protection is very important to me. I burn in the shade, so I wear SPF everyday. I have very fair skin and I do not want to burn my skin or expose it to harmful sun rays that can damage my skin or prematurely age it.
All of the horrible cancer and things that the sun can cause skin aside, my biggest reason for protecting from the sun is wrinkles and skin damage! My great grandmother stayed out of the sun and always wore a hat and she had beautiful skin up until she passed in her 90's. (and that was before sunscreen!)
My grandmother had skin cancer, now my mom is dealing with non cancerous melanomas all over because of too much tanning, indoor and outdoor all my life. I have very fair skin and sunburn easily so I stopped tanning and try to stay out of sun. Skin cancer is s dangerous, scary and preventable!
I got sunburned on my face before, especially on my nose. I hated it. It still surprises me how much damage the sun can do to you. I started wearing sunblock often now.

Sun safety is important to me because I have kids with fair skin and they burn easily. I don't want to increase their risk of getting skin cancer later in life because we didn't take precautions when they were young.
I get a horrible rash from the sun if I don't wear a good quality sun screen of 30+. I've been using the Neutrogena Beach Defense 70 all summer -- no itching or rash.

It is important so you dont get skin cancer and it is better for your skin.
Getting protection from the sun is one of my family's most important concerns. We had a family member diagnosed with skin cancer and the procedures he had to go through were excruciating for him. So protecting my family's skin from the sun is very important to us.
It is important to protect your skin having had skin Cancer removed on my face and shoulder I dont want to see anyone go through it. My son has a heart transplant and he has to be careful because his meds make him more able to get it too so we try to be very careful when outdoors.
Sun safety is important to us because it could help prevent sun burns or cancer.
