New Favorite Mask: Osmosis Tropical Mango Barrier Recovery Mask

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

New Favorite Mask:

It is not everyday that you discover a new skincare favorite!!! That is exactly how I feel about this amazing mask from Osmosis. This mask is instantly soothing and calming. Amazing!!!

My Skin:
My skin has been *so dry* lately. There has been a stretch of unusually cold weather for Georgia and this has wreaked havoc on my skin. Normally, my skin is combo with mostly normal skin with some oilyness in the t-zone and some dry areas from using Retin-A. I combat the dryness and sensitivity from Retin-A use by using very good and very gentle products. This normally works for me. However, with the extra cold weather, even my fantastic and gentle skincare routine could not hold back the dry flaky skin. So, I decided to look into my arsenal of products for something extra moisturizing and soothing, and I stumbled upon this mask: the Osmosis Tropical Mango Barrier Recovery Mask. I figured it was just what I needed because the dry flaky skin probably means that my skin barrier is compromised. So, I gave it a try and...wow! Instant results.

Wow! This mask is amazing! It hydrates and soothes and literally transforms my dry, flaky, and irritated skin. I have literally discovered a new Holy Grail skincare favorite. Now, that does not happen every day. Since discovering this mask, I am now using it weekly as a moisture boost and barrier treatment. This mask allows me to soothe my dehydrated and irritated skin with a creamy, mango scented mask that is rich in fruit and nut butters.

What are the results that I can see? Instant hydration, instant soothing, and no more dry flakes. It transforms my skin from being dry, flaky, and irritated to being smooth, hydrated, and super soft. In less than ten minutes, it soothes and repairs. I just LOVE it!

Details about the mask from Osmosis:

As a hydrating face mask that soothes inflammation, Osmosis Skincare’s Tropical Mango Barrier Recovery Mask (cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free) features nut and fruit butters and oils to restore the skin's lipid barrier. This velvety, delectably scented mask features its star ingredient Mango Seed Butter, while other key ingredients like Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Murumuru Seed Butter, and Olive Fruit Oil calm and hydrate.

With ingredients rich in vitamins, minerals and anti-inflammatory properties, skin is soothed and replenished, helping return moisture and nutrients back into the skin. This oncology friendly, creamy face mask will ease irritated, dehydrated, and rosacea skin conditions.

How I Use:
  • First, I gently cleanse my skin with a hydrating fragrance-free face wash and then gently pat dry.
  • Next, I apply a think layer of the Osmosis Tropical Mango mask to my face avoiding the eye area.
  • I relax and allow the mask to dry down for just less than 10 minutes.
  • Then, I gently splash my face with tepid water and wet a wash cloth and gently remove the mask.
  • I follow up with my usual skincare routine: hyaluronic acid gel, moisturizer, and Retin-A.
I totally love this Osmosis Tropical Mango Mask! If you are looking for something to soothe and hydrate, you need this mask! It retails for $50, which is pricey for a mask. However, you really only need a very small amount for each use. So, a jar should last you a long time!

Yu-Be's Cult Classic Moisturizing Cream is now available Fragrance-Free!

Affiliate Link Press Sample

Exciting news for fans of fragrance-free products...Yu-Be's cult-favorite Moisturizing Skin Cream now has a NEW Fragrance-free version: Introducing the NEW Yu-Be Advanced Formula Pure Hydration Cream Tube w/ Chamomile Extract.

I first tried Yu-Be's Moisturizing Skin Cream when I first started blogging years ago and totally loved it! I personally love using balms like this on my cuticles, feet, and any rough or irritated patches on my skin. I even love using it on my lips!

Over the years, and especially recently, I have developed a preferance for Fragrance-Free products. No, I haven't completely given up on Fragrance...However, if the same product is available in both Fragranced and Fragrance-Free options, I always go for the Fragrance-Free version. My skin is sensitive. So, I know that if I went 100% Fragrance-Free, my skin would thank me...and I might end up doing that eventually...but, I will admit that it is hard as a beauty-blogger when I love trying out all of the new products! With that said, if I could make just one request to all of my favorite brands out there, it would be to have all of their products available in Fragrance Free versions as well.

So, when I found out that Yu-Be had a NEW Fragrance Free version of their cult classic cream, I just had to try it. Guess what? I am a HUGE fan!

Here is the scoop from Yu-Be:

The brand is launching a reformulated, unscented version of their cult favorite cream, Yu-Be Advanced Formula Pure Hydration Cream with Chamomile Extract.
·         Paraben Free
·         Totally Unscented (NO CAMPHOR)
·         Alcohol Free
·         Artificial Fragrance Free
·         Petrolatum / Mineral Oil Free
·         Free of Animal-Derived Ingredients

This cream is amazing!!! Honestly, I really categorize it more as a balm as it really meets my skin's needs that a balm usually covers: nails, cuticles, lips, rough patches, and feet. This product is super hyrating and very protecting. Slather it on all your rough and dry spots and you will wake up with improved skin. I literally keep this on my nightstand and use it every night before going to sleep. I just love it and am THRILLED with the fragrance-free version. The brand has carefully removed the camphor and parabens that were in the origional product while still keeping the powerful hydrating qualities everyone has come to expect from Yu-Be.

The new Advanced Formula Cream is available for $16 via www.yu-be.com, select Yu-Be products can also be found at Target, Amazon, Anthropologie and Nordstrom online.

Press Sample Sponsored Post Affiliate Link Blogger Ambassador

Get Ready for Cold Weather:
Dermatologist Tips for Eczema and Aveeno's NEW Baby Eczema Therapy Nigttime Balm:

Cold weather will soon be upon us! A change of season always calls for a revision of my skincare routine. My skincare needs often depend on the weather and environmental conditions. With the arrival of Fall, I am looking to update the skincare needs of my whole family. My toddler son has Eczema. So, I am particularly interested in keeping his skin soothed and protected through the harsher weather of Fall and Winter.

As an Aveeno Ambassador, I have access to top Dermatologists for skincare questions. I am so excited that Aveeno was able to connect me to Dermatologist Jeanine B. Downie (a widely-recognized dermatologist featured in Allure, InStyle and SELF) for a short interview about Eczema.

Dr. Jeanine B. Downie talked to me about how colder temperatures affect skin conditions. She specifically addressed Eczema. I asked her for some tips about how we can protect our skin in the Winter. She shared some great information, advice, and tips. I am thrilled that I get to share these with you.

About Dr. Jeanine B. Downie:
Dr. Jeanine B. Downie, M.D., Director of Image Dermatology in Montclair, NJ is a Board Certified Dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology. Also, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is a highly sought out Dermatologist with a reputation for personal patient care and excellence within the field. She is nationally recognized and has been featured on a varitety of TV and radio shows including: The View, The Early Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Dr. Oz, GMA Health, The Wendy Williams Show, The Rachel Ray Show, Good Day New York, Fox 5 LIVE News, Channel 2 Morning News, BET News, Channel 9 News, News 12, Fox 5 Sports, Living It Up with Ali and Jack, Ten Years Younger, The Montel Williams Show, and more. Her melanoma segment on Fox 5 Sports and MSG Network was nominated for an Emmy.

Dr. Jeanine B. Downie M.D., Director of Image Dermatology in Montclair, NJ, Board Certified Dermatologist

Q&A and Skincare Tips for Cold Weather:

Q: Why do some kids and adults develop Eczema and is it Allergy related?

A: Dr. Downie explained that Allergies, Eczema, and Asthma are all related as they are caused by the same gene. If you have allergies or asthma you may be predisposed to have eczema and vice versa. I have certainly found this to be true in my family. My brother and mother have Asthma and Allergies, I have Allergies, and my son has Eczema. I am certainly watching his development closely to see if allergies develop (I suspect that he has seasonal allergies already) and asthma.

Q: I have a son with Eczema. Also, I have sensitive skin myself. How does colder weather impact skin conditions such as Eczema and sensitive skin in children and adults ?

A: Dr. Downie expressed that the lack of humidity in the air in the Winter months is the main culprit for Eczema flare-ups in colder temperatures. Dry air means dry skin. Dry skin is itchy and we tend to scratch itches. This is known as the itch/scratch cycle in Eczema. We must keep our skin moisturized and prevent dry air to break the itch/scratch vicious cycle of Eczema. She also explained that the heat of Summer can cause flare ups as well. I have seen this with my son. She explained that the salt in sweat contributes to the itch scratch cycle.

Expert tip: Most regions should use humidifiers from Oct-May in the bedroom to help combat the lack of humidity in the environment. This is a great tip and something I plan on doing in my son's bedroom ASAP!

Q: What can we do to better prepare our skin for colder weather?
A: Dr. Downie specifically gave me tips here for preparing my son's skin for the upcoming colder months. She expressed that the best thing I could do would be to use baby formula products like the Aveeno Baby Eczema line.

Expert Tips:
Use Aveeno Baby Eczema products to provide better hydration for the skin. Aveeno's new product, the Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm is specifically good as it is a steroid-free and paraben-free hydrating and moisturizing cream with 3x the amount of glycerin for severely dry and itchy skin. If you can decrease dry skin, you can decrease the itching and scratching for improved skin and improved sleep (for your child and you!). Another great tip: clip your baby/toddler's nails every/other day! You should clip low enough to not see the white nail overhang. I realized that I was keeping my son's nails much too long and this was contributing to his Eczema flare-ups from scratching. I have already started my routine of clipping his nails shorter and filing them every/other day to keep them short. Great tip!!!

Q: My son is 2 1/2 might he outgrow his Eczema?
A: Dr. Downie expressed that his Eczema will likely come more under control as he grows but often kids do not outgrow it until their teen years and many have Eczema for life. Her best tip was to keep using the Aveeno Baby Eczema formulas on him, even when he is not a baby anymore as they really are the best thing to use through the pediatric years to prevent recurrance of Eczema. With the high glycerin content, the colloidal oatmeal, and the hydrating formulas, you really can't go wrong with these products.

Now that you have read through Dr. Downie's tips for managing childhood Eczema and preventing flare-ups during colder weather, lets talk a bit more about one of the products that she highly recommended (and a personal new favorite of mine, too): Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm.

Aveeno® Baby® Eczema Therapy Nightime Balm:
I am a long-time fan and user of the Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Collection of products. My son was diagnosed with Eczema when he was an infant. So, I have been using the Aveeno collection of products since then. Overally, the Aveeno products work amazingly well at preventing and treating my toddler's eczema flare-ups.

I am super excited about this new line addition to the Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Collection! I think a nighttime balm is so useful. I love the idea of a super rich balm that works overnight to soothe my son's Eczema! We do a nighttime bath every other evening and I usually slather him down in Aveeno's Baby Eczema Therapy Cream. However, there are some times when even that wonderful cream doesn't cut it for an Eczema flare-up. During these times, my son's skin is itchy and uncomfortable. That is when I need something even richer and more nourishing and soothing than the cream. So, I use the Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm right over the Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Cream. I use it like a spot-treatment on his Eczema patches and areas of super dry skin. Also, I tend to apply it where I see him itching. I love the balm-like thick and rich feel of this balm. There is no question, I see such a difference in his skin when he wakes up in the morning after applying this balm to affected areas.

Aveeno's NEW Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm has Aveeno's tradmark Active Naturals ingredients plus a high level of glycerin to help intensly moisturize and sooth the skin. Oat is the #1 ingredient to soothe itch and treat skin conditions like eczema. This balm has been clinically proven to reduce the occurance of itchy patches and eczema flare ups.

I am so happy to add the NEW Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm to my son's arsenal of skincare products.

Are you an adult with Eczema? Well, good news! Aveeno also has a NEW Itch Relief Balm formulated and packaged for adults: introducing Aveeno Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm. It provides up to 6 hours of itch relief after application. With 3x more glycerin, this rich protective balm intensely moisturizes and leaves skin feeling super soft and comfortable. Plus, it has Aveeno's trademark Active Naturals.

What do you do to prepare your skin and your family's skin for the change of season? Do you have Eczema issues in your house as well? Be sure to scope out Aveeno's Eczema Therapy line and the NEW Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm!

Thanks for reading! I hope that you enjoyed reading Dr. Downie's advice and tips as much as I did!
XOXO

I have found that my rough red and dry patches on my hands are healed and eliminated from consistent use of this. Plus, my baby boy's skin is so soft from using this, too!

I just love this stuff. It is so simple, yet so effective! I must also note that this product is so safe and gentle that it gets the National Eczema Association's seal of acceptance for making a difference in people's lives with Eczema. As a mother of a baby with Eczema, this matters to me!

 Affiliate Link Press Sample

Like many people, my skin gets so dry in the winter. Not just dry...but, itchy, flaky, and even chapped. So, I need to rely on rich and moisturizing products with proven ingredients. With so many products on the market, it can be hard to navigate the drugstore! The best way to search for products? Look for ingredients that are proven effective and that you know work for you.

I am so excited that I was able to connect with Johnson & Johnson to get a direct quote from  one of the product development scientists over at Johnson & Johnson as well as some other tips and product recommendations from the brand.

What Ingredients are Helpful for Winter Dry Skin?
“In the winter months, the cold temperatures and decreased humidity can wreak havoc on your skin. We need to use products that contain ingredients such as oatmeal that help prevent dryness and  fortify the skin.” -- Michael Southall, Senior Research Fellow, Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc.

Knowing about the best ingredients and technologies – like Vitamin E, Vitamin B5, Glycerin, Oat and Hydrophobically Modified Polymer (HMP) Technology – is the first step to keeping your skin healthy all winter long.

For Winter-dry skin, I need products that I trust and that are proven to work! What are some of my current staples? Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Moisture Lotion, Aveeno Skin Relief Healing Ointment, and Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser! To find out more about these products, please click "read more" below! :)

Mario Badescu: Review and Opportunity for FREE samples!!!

Hello skin-care lovers! Have you tried Mario Badescu? If not, run, not walk over to the Mario Badescu website! You can fill out an questionnaire for an online skin care consultation. The folks over at Mario Badescu will analyze your answers and customize a skincare system just for your specific skin type and skin concerns. And...drum roll please...the best part...Mario Badescu will send you out a *totally free* sample package full of deluxe sized samples and detailed instructions for use!!! Totally free ya'll! You just have to get on the website, do the skin analysis...and that's it! All the product samples will be personalized for your specific skin type and skincare needs. I got mine in the mail just about 2 weeks after filling out the online form. (Please see my Mario Badescu link in the side bar)

I got my samples a few weeks ago. The samples are in the cutest little bottles!!! I have been diligently testing out the products over the past couple weeks so that I could report back to you readers on what worked and didn't work for me!

FYI: I have normal to dry skin with occasional dry/flaky patches. I use Differin Cream as prescribed by my Dermatologist. I have been using that for about 5 years and it keeps my skin very clear without dryness nor irritation. During "that time of the month" my skin gets a bit oily in the t-zone and is more prone to a very mild breakout (although, honestly, I breakout rarely...maybe one or two small bumps every few months). My skin is super sensitive and fair and I seem to be allergic to many skincare ingredients (primarily sunscreens). I don't have any wrinkles (yet), but I sure don't want any cropping up anytime soon! :) So, my skincare routine and recommendations are for people with my skin type.

If you have oily/combo skin, then you might like to checkout my friend and fellow blogger Shaylee Anne's blog at "Cosmetically Curious". We got our samples at the same time and thought it would be fun to link each other in our reviews so that people could see what was recommended for different skin types!

So, here is what was recommended for me following my online skincare consultation (They sent me items for "combo/dry/sensitive" skin:

Eye Cream: Dermonectin Eye Cream
Scrub: Almond and Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub
Night Cream: Seaweed Night Cream
Toner: Seaweed Cleansing Lotion
Cleanser: Orange Cleansing Soap
Mask: Healing and Soothing Mask
SPF: Collagen Moisturizer SPF15
Acne drying gel? (they stated they could not send this as it needed to be in a glass bottle). This is something that I definitely want to try!

I did not test them all at the same time. I added one new product at a time. I did this because my skin is so *extremely* sensitive...that if one product was causing a reaction, I wanted to be able to determine which product caused the reaction. So, I staggered adding in new products. After I determined which products worked for my skin, I started using most of the products together. Does that make sense? Also, I must note that with the weather having just turned cold...my skin is much drier than usual. So, I was testing these products out during a very "temperamental phase" with my skin.

Here is the low-down:

Orange Cleansing Soap:
  • This is a very mild pearly/creamy liquid soap.
  • Creamy/non-foaming feel
  • Mild fresh "creamsicle" fragrance
  • Leaves a residue after rinsing (doesn't "rinse clean"): downside for me as I prefer a "clean rinsing" product
  • Did not sting or irritate my skin at all upon application (big plus for my sensitive skin!)
  • About 10 minutes after washing my skin started showing some signs of dryness (dry patches)
  • After washing with this cleanser in the evenings, I noticed that I would wake up with very dry skin in the mornings (major dry patches)
  • This cleanser might be better suited for more "normal" skin types. My skin in the cold weather gets very dry and this cleaner just wasn't mild enough for my winter-dry skin.
  • Tested for about a week. Discontinued use at that time as my skin was getting too dry.

Seaweed Cleansing Lotion (Toner):
  • Very light scent
  • Feels nice when applying (no burning, slight cooling sensation)
  • Way too drying for my skin.
  • Generally, I am not a fan of toner unless it "adds" moisture to my skin.
  • Tested for 3 nights, after that I discontinued use as it was drying my skin out too much.

Dermonectin Eye Cream:
  • WOW! This is the most moisturizing eye cream that I have ever used! *Love it*!!!
  • Unscented pale blue cream (but, why blue? with my dark under eye circles I just don't want any more blue pigment applied on my skin! Note: You can not see the blue when you apply it. I just wonder "why blue?")
  • This product is intended for use at Night only as it is a very "greasy" cream and leaves your eye skin looking very wet and greasy. Great for night as you have all night while you sleep for it to sink in and work its "magic"! I tested it during the day, just for kicks, and it is *way* too greasy to wear under concealer (my concealer slid right off and didn't blend it). But, this eye cream was not intended for daytime use.
  • Very hydrating
  • After using this in the evenings, I would awake in the morning with very moisturized eyes. LOVE this!
  • I like this eye cream so much! Not only will I purchase for myself, but also I would like to get some for my Mom too! :)

Almond and Honey Non-Abrasive Scrub:
  • I swear, every time I open this and smell this I want to eat it!!! It smells so yummy...like honey/almond and oatmeal. I mean, really, smells divine!
  • Creamy texture with very soft "scrub" pieces...like oatmeal or , I guess, almond (as the name implies).
  • Left skin feeling nice and smooth after use.
  • Did not dry out skin.
  • No irritation. That is pretty amazing for me as I have to be super-careful with scrubs on my sensitive skin.
  • I would totally purchase this one!

Collagen Moisturizer SPF 15:
  • Non-scented
  • Feels creamy and moisturizing
  • Leaves a dewy finish
  • Tingling/stinging upon application (this was my allergic reaction coming on, I am sure it would not tingle otherwise)
  • Apparently I am allergic to this product! After initial stinging upon application, my face started to get itchy. The itchiness continued to be bothersome so I had to rinse it off after about 15 minutes.
  • Note: I am allergic to most sunscreens it seems. So, this is not the first time that I have reacted like this to an SPF product. Typically, I go for physical sunscreens and steer clear from chemical sunscreens. I am a big label reader when shopping for sunscreens as I know that ingredients like Parsol 1789 bother me. This sample did not come with ingredients listed. After my reaction, I looked up the ingredients on the Mario Badescu website, but was not familiar with the sunscreen ingredient. So, I guess I can add Octyl Methooxycinnamate to my list of products that cause skin allergies.
  • So, I really feel that I can not fairy judge this product as I had an allergic reaction to it and only tested it a few moments.

Seaweed Night Cream:
  • Lightly scented pearly light green cream
  • Very moisturizing
  • I applied this to dry patches on my face (did not apply all over as I use Differin Cream at night all over my face, so I apply Differin...let that "sink" in and follow up with this over any dry areas)
  • I really like how creamy and moisturizing this product is!
  • I will continue to use this sample and possibly purchase a full size of this.
  • While I typically do not like my skincare products to be scented, the scent of this one I really like.

Sorry for the blurry picture folks!
Healing and Soothing Mask:
  • This product is designed to soothe any irritation from acne.
  • I did not have any breakouts while testing these products, so I really have no idea how this works in relation to soothing/healing acne.
  • However, I did test this anyway. I applied all over my face and let it sit for 20 minutes.
  • The mask felt good on my skin. No irritation.
  • Skin felt smooth after rinsing the mask.
  • The next morning I noticed an increase in dryness from the mask.
  • I will update this post if I breakout in the near future (and use this mask).
  • As far as masks go: this is a good one for my sensitive skin. Many masks are too strong for me and contain irritating ingredients. This is certainly a mask that I will use again in the future when I feel like doing some beauty "pampering".

In summary, some products I really, really liked and some not as much. Overall, I really enjoyed testing and using this brand. Also, I must comment that I like the no-frills packaging. Yes, I was allergic to the sunscreen, but that is really a common occurrence for me. I definitely want to explore more products from this line. They have a great selection of high quality products. Also, I must rave about a product by Mario Badescu that I have used for a long time: the Herbal Hydrating Serum: love this light weight oil-free gel for "spot" moisturizing. I keep a small bottle in my purse.

Remember, what didn't work for me, might work great for you. The *good news* here is that you can test these products out for FREE and see for yourself! I can't think of a deal any better than that!

Hope you enjoyed reading! You guys must check out Mario Badescu's website (please see link in sidebar). Also, don't forget to checkout Shaylee's blog at Cosmetically Curious if you would like to hear about Mario Badescu products for oily skin.

XOXO!
