Skincare from Apothederm: Cleanser, Serum, and Eye Cream

It is time for another skincare review! I am excited to report about these products from Apothederm!!!

Apothederm is a relatively new skincare line (2011 launch) that is now available at Apothederm is a "scientific" skincare line with results-based products that contain researched and patented ingredients. Apothederm specifically feature's its own "SmartPeptides" that are engineered to target fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks. They act as cellular messengers to help stimulate and restore critical functions. Plus, the products are all free from parabens, fragrances, phthalates, pore cloggers, and formaldehyde releasing ingredients.

My Skin:
My skin is combination-dry with some oily patches through the t-zone. In addition, my skin is also sensitive. I am in my late 30s. So, I am concerned with minimizing the effects of aging. I do not have any major lines nor wrinkles (yet!). However, I do have some fine lines that crop up around my eyes when my skin gets dehydrated. While I do not break out very often now, in the past my skin has historically been acne-prone and I am still prone to clogged pores. So, I like to steer clear from pore cloggers.

For this review, I tried out Apothederm's Brightening Cleanser, Bright Skin Serum, and Hydrating Eye Cream.

Apothederm: Skin Care Science:
Apothederm Brightening Cleanser:
This clear gel-based cleanser is formulated with Vitamin C and Malic Acid to tone and refine your skin while cleansing and hydrating your skin. It produces a very slight foam and rinses completely clean. It does not irritate my skin nor does it leave me feeling dry and tight. I really love using it!

How I use:
I use this cleanser in the morning and in the evening as the first step in my skincare routine. I wet my face then massage in this cleanser in a circular motion. Then I rinse with tepid water and pat dry.

The Skinny:
Apothederm Bright Skin Serum:
This is a thin and milky gel-like serum. This formula is designed to brighten and refine your skin while clearing pores, evening tone, decreasing imperfections, and hydrating your skin.

This serum contains Malic Acid and Mandelic Acid to refine your skin. In addition, it contains Apothederm's patented anti-inflammatory SmartPeptides that targets skin imperfections. It also contains Sodium Hyaluronate, a humectant, that draws moisture to your skin.

How I use:
I apply one pumps worth to my face in the mornings 3 days a week. Since my skin is sensitive (and the product slightly stings), I had to reduce how often I apply it. I let it sink in and dry and then I apply my moisturizer with SPF. The product is packaged in a sanitary and convenient pump dispenser bottle. Ya'll know that I just love products that are packaged in pumps! One pump dispenses exactly the right amount of product that I need for my whole face.

The Results:
The combined use of the Brightening Cleanser and the Bright Skin Serum produced some very nice results! My skin has been extremely clear while using this system. I have not had any clogged pores nor breakouts while using these products. Also, my skin texture is extremely soft and smooth. My pores are less noticeable and my skin feels hydrated.

I had to be very careful while using the serum. It mildly stings for a minute or so after application. The stinging is tolerable and did not cause me to discontinue use. If you have sensitive skin, I urge you to do a patch-test first to see if the stinging is tolerable for you. Also, I would apply a very small amount (do not over-do it!).

The Skinny:
  • The Bright Skin Serum retails for $67.50 for 1 oz.
  • Available at SFRbeauty
Apothederm Hydrating Eye Cream:
This is such a gentle and soothing eye cream! If you are looking for some good hydration and a slight reduction in dark circles, this is a great option! Plus, you know that I love the sanitary pump dispenser!!! :) Also, I love that the eye cream is very creamy and somewhat thick without being greasy nor heavy. It is just right!!!

This eye cream contains effective ingredients such as Apothederm's SmartPeptides (for repair and regeneration and reduction of photoaging), butter and glycerin (effective for dry skin), Squalene (restore moisture balance),  shea butter (to smooth dryness), and Glycerin (an effective humectant).

How I use:
I use this eye cream morning and night after cleansing my face. I pump out 1 pump's worth and use it for both eyes. I tap it around entire eye area and eye lid in gentle motions. It absorbs and leaves you feeling very soft.

First of all, I have to mention how gentle this eye cream is! Absolutely no irritation! Also, I am so excited to report that I have noticed a good reduction in my dark circles since using this cream. Granted, my dark circles are *super duper dark* and come from deep within my skin. So, they are certainly still there. However, the surface skin looks to be much lighter (almost like a bleaching effect). The overall result is a visibly lighter eye area. Hey, I will take any help that I can get when it comes to my darn dark cirlces! :) I am very pleased! Also, my eye area has felt very plump and smooth with this cream.

The Skinny:
  • Retails for $39.99 for .05 oz
  • Available at SFRbeauty
As you can tell, I really like the items that I tested out from Apothederm! I especially love the Eye Cream. I am curious to scope out the rest of the line!

Thanks so much for reading!
