Hair Trends from the Runways at New York Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2013

With New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in full swing, we get a sneak peek at what the hair, makeup, and fashion trends are for Spring of 2013!

I know it is hard to think of Spring/Summer of next year already. However, I think it is so fun to be able to see the new fashion and beauty trends for next year!!!

I am very excited that all of the Runway hairstyles are actually really easy to re-create for "real life". The styles are relaxed and easy to wear with modern twists. The look is generally "off the face" and wavy with gelled textures. Very easy-breezy for Spring!

Here are some tips for creating the runway looks from two of my fav brands: Redken and Tresemme.

Alexander Wang: Spring/Summer 2013:
Created by Guido (Redken Creative Consultant)

For Alexander Wang, Guido created a simple low ponytail. As a stay-at-home Mommy, I must admit that I am excited that a simple ponytail is actually going to be considered fashionable come spring of next year, lol! I can rock that look every day. To make the simple ponytail look sleek and modern, Guido kept the pony low and close to the head. Then he added a severe strip of tape along the part. The overall look is super modern.

Here is how you can "Create the Look" from Alexander Wang at home with Redken Products:
  • On damp hair, create a center part that's clean but not perfectly straight.
  • Apply Redkin's satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion and dry hair with a dryer, leaving natural texture in the bottom two thirds.
  • Create a low pony at the nape of the neck keeping the hair tight to the head.
  • Using a curling iron like, create a slight bend to the hair in the pony.
  • Adhere tape to the center part, running about an inch down the center of the forehead.
  • Mist fashion work 12 versatile working spray all over finished style to keep the front sleek and add texture and flexible hold in the back.

Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2013:
Created by Jeanie Syfu

For Rebecca Minkoff, Tresemme stylist Jeanie Syfu creates beachy waves with polished hair ends. The collection has a bit of an 80s relaxed but chic vibe. So, the hair needed to be glamourous while also remaining casual. Sounds like just the vibe for me! I love unfussy hair. Plus, this hair look will be easy to recreate and wear.

Here is how you can "Create the Look" from Rebecca Minkoff at home with Tresemme products:
  • Start by applying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray and TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse throughout the hair and power dry with fingers for texture
  • Smooth out ends with a brush
  • Take random sections of hair and using a 1” barrel curling iron, create curls through the mid-lengths, making sure to leave the ends out
  • Use the flat iron to straighten ends and give the beachy texture a polished finish
  • Spray lightly with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo for a matte look. I love using Dry Shampoos for creating volume. This one by Tresemme is a great choice!
  • Create a middle part with a comb and finish with a dime size amount of TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème to fingertips, raking through the hair from roots to ends

Rag and Bone Spring/Summer 2013:
Created by Guido (Redken Creative Consultant)

Rag and Bone has a feminine tomboy vibe with a bit of a 90s-esque minimalist feel. Guido felt that this aesthetic calls for a a modern hairstyle. Guido opted for loose textured beachy waves that are slicked back from the front.

Here is how you can "Create the Look" from Rebecca Minkoff at home with Tresemme products:
  • Apply Redken guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to damp hair from roots to ends.
  • Rough dry hair with fingers for a textured finish using a dryer, raking hair back from the forehead as you dry.
  • Using a Oval Curling Iron (like the Sultra Buombshell), create waves on the lower two-thirds of the hair. I am so intrigued by this!!! An oval curling iron? I have never even seen one of these, have you?
  • Apply a generous amount of hardwear 16 super strong gel to the front 2-3 inches of hair, slicking back with fingers, leaving the forehead exposed.
  • Spray top third of style with forceful 23 super-strength finishing spray, concentrating on the crown, and use the blow-dryer once again on the front 2-3 inches of hair to really set the style.

Overall, I like the ease of these Spring/Summer 2013 runway hairstyles! Often runway styles do not translate into real life (but I think these will!). What do ya'll think? I like the Rebecca Minkoff Hair styles the best. I would need to go a little less slicked back with the other looks.

Thanks for reading!

Simple ponytails never grow old. They can give a classic look. All the other hairstyles are really nice as well.
