"Bye Bye Frizz" Keratin Smoothing by Marc Anthony

My hair needs all the help it can get. It is pretty much tortured, lol. My hair is very long and I highlight and heat style it. But, with all that said, my arsenal of hair products keep it in remarkably good condition!

So, what do I look for when considering hair products? I need 2 main things: moisture and protein (keratin). I need products that strengthen the hair to prevent or reduce breakage. In addition, I need mega moisture. Rarely is a product "too rich" for my hair. Actually, quite the contrary, usually products are not quite rich enough.

What about Frizz?
Yes, even straight hair like mine can get frizzy (especially in the Georgia humidity!). I am always looking for products to tame or reduce frizz.

I am super excited about Marc Anthony's new (just released in March!) Bye. Bye. Frizz: Keratin Smoothing line of products: Shampoo, Conditioner, Blow Dry Cream, and 30-day No Frizz Keratin Smoothing Treatment. This hair care line sounds like exactly what I need! :) This review is for the Shampoo, Conditioner, and Blow Dry Cream. The 30-day No Frizz Keratin Smoothing Treatment review is coming soon!
Marc Anthony's Bye. Bye. Frizz Keratin Smoothing line:
Bye. Bye. Frizz promises to do more than just reduce frizz, it promises damage protection too! This is a winning combo in my book.

Why does hair get frizzy?
This is a good question! Marc Anthony answers this for us: The cuticle is the outermost part of the hair shaft made up of dead cells that protect the inner structure of the hair and give it strength. It looks very much like overlapping layers of roof shingles. When the cuticle is lying flat or closed it looks smooth and allows light to be reflected off the surface for a natural sheen. When the cuticle is open, hair appears frizzy, dull, and coarse. Many factors contribute to a frizzy cuticle.

What causes this type of cuticle damage?
  • Texture: Some people are just born with hair that has a cuticle that does not stay flat. Example: Curly hair.
  • Damage: Everyday styling with heat tools can rough up the cuticle. Other culprits: Chemical processing (color, perms), the weather/elements, and brushing.
  • Dehydration: This makes the hair brittle and the cuticle will rise. When the cuticle is open, more dryness ensues. It is a vicious cycle people!
  • Humidity: Humidity makes the hair swell up and this causes various cracks in the cuticle.
So, the idea behind this whole line is the reduction in frizz by smoothing the cuticle. Now that we know how frizz happens, you can see that smoothing the cuticle can also combat damage, dehydration, and issues from hair texture.
(For me, the cuticle is damaged from highlights. Thus the reduction in shine, the dryness, and yes...the frizz!).

Bye. Bye. Frizz Keratin Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner:
The shampoo is ultra rich and creamy and very luxurious in its feel. I tend to like "thicker" more concentrated shampoos like this. They just "seem" more moisturizing because of their thick feel. The good news is that this one actually is super hydrating! I found that it cleansed gently without over stripping my hair.

The conditioner pairs nicely with the shampoo. It is also super moisturizing and on the heavy side. Actually, this product might be too heavy for those with thin or fine hair. My hair is fine but also very thick and damaged. So, it works great for me. It leaves my hair feeling smooth, detangled, and soft.

The Bye. Bye. Frizz Kertain Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner are both Sulfate Free and they promises to reduce frizz.  They also contain Hydrolyzed Silk, Keratin, and an Amino Acid Blend to form a cuticle smoothing layer. The combo of these two products can improve strength, repair surface damage, and bind moisture to the hair. In addition, these products smell amazing: a lovely green-apple type scent. Very fresh! I will fully admit that one of the biggest things that wins me over with shampoos and conditioner is the scent.

I found that the combo of the shampoo and conditioner leaves my hair looking smooth and moisturized. I did notice a reduction in frizz! The hair just seems smoother on the surface with less frizz and fewer fly-away pieces. I am amazed that it did this without weighing my hair down too much. I really like both the shampoo and conditioner and will continue to use them! I normally swear by my holy-grail shampoo and conditioner, Redken All Soft; but, I think I like this Bye. Bye Frizz line just as much! Plus, they are only $6.99 each for a huge 8.4 oz tube! Sweet!
Bye. Bye. Frizz Keratin Smoothing Blow Dry Cream:
Shampoos and Conditioners don't "do it" for me alone. My hair always needs the additional help of styling products. I like to stick to ones that also add moisture to the hair and offer some protection. So, serums and styling creams are my thing.

This Bye. Bye. Frizz Keratin Smoothing Blow Dry Cream is a silicone-based heat protectant cream. It is dual-purpose in that it can be used to blow dry hair straight or scrunch it and diffuse it curly (my hair is straight). This cream forms a protective barrier or shield to minimize or absorb some of the extra abuse from blow drying or heat tools. It protects your hair, adds moisture, and smooths out the cuticle. Also, I found that it increased shine and softness. Overall, it is a nice product that is worth checking out.

The Skinny:
  • Marc Anthony's Bye. Bye. Frizz line is sold at Rite Aid, Ulta, and Drugstore.com
  • Shampoo and Conditioner $6.99 each, Blow Dry Cream $7.99, and 30-day No-Frizz Treatment (review coming soon!) $11.99
The folks over at Marc Anthony have totally spoiled me with some amazing product samples from this line as well as some others. I will be testing out more products from Marc Anthony in the near future (including the Bye. Bye. Frizz 30-day No Frizz Treatment). I've not tried the line but you can usually find it on sale plus use coupons at Rite Aid. Or at least it seemed that way the last few months. I never got around to picking any of the line up though.

I have a Rodan + Fields giveaway on my blog at the moment that you might enjoy.

Marc Anthony's is my mom's fave. And she love this Duo because it help her tame her frizzy locks.. I was actually shocked the first time I saw her using this one because her hair looks like it was ironed out. Janine of Hair Salons.

I have kinky curly, bleached blonde hair that has been mercilessly tortured and it's smooth as silk and straight as a pin. All for $12!! Beats paying $300 at the salon.
