There seems to be such a taboo about talking about oral herpes. Honestly, we shouldn't feel embarrased to talk about it because guess how many people have it? The majority. So, lets have more conversations and help to stop the herpes stigma. It’s absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. So, let’s spread the word and educate people, help them feel more comfortable, and provide solutions.
What is Oral Herpes?
Oral herpes is a common infection of the mouth area that is caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Fifty to eighty-percent of U.S. adults have oral herpes. According to the National Institutes of Health, about 90 percent of adults have been exposed to the virus by age 50. Oral Herpes is can also be referred to as Cold Sores or Fever Blisters. Most people get HSV-1 during infancy or childhood from a family member or friend. It can be transmitted by kissing or sharing eating utensils or towels. HSV-1 is extremely contagious. In fact, 67% of the world population under age 50 has HSV-1.
