I am so glad that I am able to squeeze in one more Makeup Wars post before Christmas! Are any of you scrambling around to get last minute gifts? L'Oreal Pure Clay Mask Detox & Brighten:
Here is another great drugstore facial mask! I love all of the L'Oreal Pure Clay masks. This Detox & Brighten formula does just that: it clears the pores and detoxes your skin with its charcoal and clay formula. It really draws all the gunk out of your pores. I feel consistent use of this mask can really improve your skin over time and decrease breakouts and congestion. Plus, my skin feels so smooth after using this! Love it! Retails for $12.99.

Covergirl Melting Pout Gel Liquid Lipsticks:
These award winning gel-formula liquid lipsticks are must-haves for any beauty lover. You get high-impact rich color with a smooth gel formula that has impressive wear. The shade range is from classic to bold and wild! Retails for $7.99 each.

SinfulColors Polishes and TopCoats:
Nail polish is a perfect stocking stuffer! I tried out an assortment of base colors and top coats from SinfulColors recent Punk Yourself Collection, which launched in October (available in ULTA). The five limited-edition Hypnotic Transforming Top Coats are so cool! You pair them with the core base colors to create unique and transforming layered looks. It is super fun to experiment with these. Plus, at $1.99 each, you can add a ton of these to a stocking! I find it super fun to experiment with nail color when I have time on my hands over Christmas vacation.

Lip treats from Sara Happ:

Last, but not least, stuff the stocking with a hair mask! Cold weather really dries out my hair. Christmas vacation is the perfect time to take a little extra time in the shower with a hair mask treatment. It is time for another Makeup Wars! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are discussing their favorite facial oils. I am *so excited* about this topic. As ya'll know, I am obcessed with skincare. My interest in finding the very best skincare for my skin is the driving force behind my blog. 

My Skin:

Before diving into my favorite facial oils, lets talk quickly about my skin type. I have combination skin. My skin does fluxuate. Right now I am leaning more combination/oily. My skin is also somewhat sensitive and slightly prone to breaking out about once a month on my chin or near my nose. Also, I somethings get clogged pores. Since I am not getting any younger, lol, I am also interested in effective anti-aging skincare. 

After many years of avoiding oils in skincare products for fear of breaking out, I learned that certain oils are really beneficial for your skin. There is certainly a facial oil movement within the skincare world. Facial Oils have really gained in popularity for a reason: they work and have such great impact on your skin! Just a drop or two of oil after your usual skincare routine can give your skin a tremendous boost of nourishment and moisture! In addition, using oils as a mix in can really work wonders, too. Afraid of leaving an oil to sit on your skin, then you could try "getting your oil" by using a cleansing oil that you rinse off. 

There are honestly so many oils that I love (too many to list here). So, today I am going to focus on sharing my current favorites. Adding an oil to your skincare routine is one of the best ways to get a fantastic anti-aging, moisturizing, and skin-smoothing "boosts"!

My Current Favorite Facial Oils:

Kiehl's | Midnight Recovery Concentrate: 
This amazing (and 99.8% naturally derived) oil works to regenerate, replenish, and restore your skin overnight. I am currently using this oil every night as the final step in my skincare routine. I have used this oil off-and-on for a few years (in between testing out other products for this blog) and it is always something that I come back to. I use just one to two drops. I drop the oil onto my fingertips and then pat it across my skin hitting key areas where I seem to get fine lines. The herbal scent of this oil is so soothing for bedtime. There is just something "magical" about this oil! Whenever I don't use it, I can tell that my skin just dosn't look quite its best. It allows me to wake up in the mornings with skin that is a bit more hydrated and plump and smoothed. I love how this oil really sinks into your skin.

Key ingredients include: Evening Primrose Oil, Lavender Oil, and Squalene. A 1 oz bottle retails for $46.00. However, I must note: this bottle will last you forever when you only use 1-2 drops a night! I just love Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate and give it my highest recommendation!!!

Nude Skincare | ProGenius Treatment Oil: 
Now, I got my bottle of Nude Skincare ProGenius Treament Oil a few years ago and really can now only find it online on Amazon. So, I believe this ProGenius Treatment Oil was either replaced with or renamed as Sephora's Nude Skincare ProGenius Firming Youth Oil. If anyone knows any details about this product, please be sure to let me know in the comments! Anyways, this oil has lasted me for a few years because I only use one drop in the mornings.

How I Use:
I add one drop of this oil to my dollop of sunscreen/moisturizer that I apply to my face in the mornings. This gives my sunscreen/moisturizer a boost! It allows it to apply better and leaves my skin more hydrated and smooth than when I leave the oil out. I especially do this in the Winter months when my skin is more dehydrated. You can also add a drop of this oil to your liquid foundation for the same type of effect if you would rather. I love the hydrating and skin-smoothing benefits of applying the oil this way. This oil is rich in antioxidants! So, you really are getting a protective and anti-aging boost in addition to adding essential oil and moisture to your skin. I just love this stuff!

Key Ingredients: Apricot kernel oil and meadowfoam seed oil (moisturizers); camelina (redness reducer); sea buckthorn and macadamia oil (skin smoothers). Retails for $78.00. 

L'Occitane Divine Youth Oil:
When it comes to luxury skincare, L'Occitane is one of my favorite brands! I adore the whole Divine skincare collection from L'Occitane and this decadent oil is no exception. The Divine collection products all contain ingedients derived from the Immortelle flower. This flower is legendary because of it's longevity: it never fades, even after it has been picked. The L'Occitane Divine Youth Oil contains Immortelle Essential Oil which is rich in anti-aging active properties.

This oil is so nourishing! I like using it at night as a final step in my skincare routine. I either tap on 1-2 drops of oil or mix it in with a nighttime moisturizer. It really works to smooth fine lines and refine tone and overall appearance of my skin. I adore it!

Makeup Wars: My Top Five Concealers for Very Dark Undereye Circles:

As many of my regular readers know, the topic of concealers is near and dear to my heart. Actually, my hunt for the very best concealers (along with finding effective skincare for my sensitive skin) was my gateway into the beauty and makeup world! I always heavily research my concealer purchases by reading online reviews and blogs. The average concealer just doesn't work for my dark circles. I need heavy duty coverage! 

My Concealer Needs:

I struggle with dark circles. Seriously. My dark circles are so dark that they practically count as black eyes. Why do I have dark circles? Primarily, I blame heredity. I have very fair/thin skin. Also, I have allergies and generally never get enough sleep. So, I have both the blue/purple dark circles as well as redness in the area from allergies. If I walked around without concealer (which I have from time-to-time, but not often), people ask me if I am sick or tired. The dark circles are just that bad. 

So, I need very heavy duty coverage. Plus, I need that coverage to last all day. Also, I don't want the coverage to look cakey. Not to mention, I need a good match to my skintone. My skin tone is almost porcelain. In many makeup brands, the lightest concealer is still too dark for my skintone. Seriously ya'll, the struggle is real for me when it comes to finding good concelaers!

I have found some great concealers over the years. Some I have stuck with for years and some that I have loved have been discontinued (which is always heartbreaking, for real ya'll!). So, needless to say, I am always searching and always wanting to add awesome under eye concelaers to my makeup arsenal.

Makeup Wars: Favorite Hair Products!

It is time for another Makeup Wars! This time we are talking about our favorite Hair Products! 

Hair products are near and dear to my heart. I put a lot of time and effort into my hair. So, I want to use products that bring out the best in my hair. I will fully admit that I probably spend more than I need to on highlights and cuts. So, I want to take care of my investment, lol! I am not satisified with "ok" hair. I want shiny and pretty hair everyday. If my hair looks good, I feel better about myself overall! Before diving into my favorite hair products, lets talk a bit about my hair type.

My Hair:

I have heavily highlighted, long, and thick hair. My hair is coarse in texture. Rarely is a product "too rich" for me. In fact, I struggle to find products that are moisturizing and soothing enough for my hair. Because of my highlights, my hair is on the dry and damaged side. However, I have found that using really great products combats the damage and makes my hair look healthy.

These favorites have been collected over the years. Some are very old favorites and some of these are new favorites. Either way, these are all heavy hitters in my weekly hair routine. So, let's dive right in.

My Biggest Beauty Concern: Dark Under Eye Circles:

There is no question, my biggest beauty battle is dealing with my super dark under eye circles. Honestly, finding effective ways to treat and conceal my dark under eye circles is one of the driving forces behind why I became a beauty blogger. I have struggled with this area for my whole life. Year-round allergies, heredity, and general lack of sleep leave my eye area very dark. When I say dark circles, I am talking about deep dark under eye circles that almost look like black eyes. The darkness has a purple tone with the addition of a red look to the entire area from allergies. 

"Regular" concealer just doesn't cut it for me. I need super-duper pigmented concealer to cover up these bad boys. Plus, the area must be super hydrated in order for the concealer to apply well and not look cakey. Not to mention, at just over 40 years old, my eyes are just starting to show signs of aging. I am lucky to not have any major lines or wrinkles yet. However, when my skin is feeling dehydrated, fine lines crop up in my eye area. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, my eye area is extremely sensitive. I need products that are non-irritating to this delicate area. So, not only do I want to cover and detract from the darkness, but also I want to use products that fight signs of aging. This is a tall order!

I am on the constant search for the best products out there to help with my eye area concerns. I am looking for gentle yet effective eye creams and high-coverage concealers. I certainly have some stand-by favorite products. However, I am always open to trying new things and new combinations of eye cream and concealers.

My Hair:

Before diving in to the product descriptions and my reviews, lets talk about my hair type. My hair is very long, thick, and heavily highlighted. I am naturally a dark blonde and I highlight my hair to a light blonde shade. While my hair is thick, it is fine in texture but also somewhat coarse as well. I generally find that shampoos geared towards coarse damaged hair are what resonates with my hair. Rarely can a shampoo or conditioner be "too thick" or "too rich" for me. It is actually the contrary, I struggle to find shampoos and conditioners that are smoothing and moisturizing enough for me. My other issue: tangles. My hair tangles so easily and it is so long that it really can be a pain! My hair is certainly in the dry and damaged range. With that said, my hair can be transformed into touchably soft and beautiful hair with the right combination of products!

Makeup Wars: Summer Glow Products!

It is time for another Makeup Wars! This time the Makeup Wars bloggers are sharing some of their favorite products to get a great Summer Glow! My focus this time? Skin perfecting products for the body. So, here are some of my favorite self tanners, gradual tanners, leg makeup (yes!), and even a BB Cream for the body! These products are all amazing!!!

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs: Leg makeup? What??? Yes, leg makeup! This amazing transfer-resistant tint helps to cover imperfections, give your legs a little bit of color, and generally makes your legs look great! Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs has been a go-to product for me for many years. As I mentioned, I am incredibly pale. Honestly, that does not bother me. I embrace my pale. However, I do feel a bit better about myself when my legs have a slight bit of color...especially if I am wearing a short skirt or short shorts. I especially like wearing Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs if I am going out in the evenings like on a date night or to a party. It just helps me to feel pretty. It is that simple! I actually like to spray a bit in my hand and then mix some in with my usual body lotion and apply to my legs. You can also spray this directly on your legs. I wear the Fairest Shade.

Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil: This self-tanning oil contains 100% Argan Oil and natural DHA and other great ingredients like hydrating coconut water and aloe juice. When you use self tanners, you cover a large surface area of your body. So, I really appreciate the natural ingredients because your body absorbs so much of the product. To get an even application, you need to apply this self tanning oil with the mitt provided using circular motions to prevent streaking. Also, you need to keep shaking the bottle throughout application. As with all self-tanners, I recommend going very lightly over knees, ankles, and feet to prevent these areas from collecting too much color (I usually treat those areas first with extra lotion, to keep the areas from absorbing too much). Also, be sure to exfoliate first. Now, this product does have that typical self-tanner smell. However, I expect that from pretty much any product with DHA. I am pleased with my color results from this tanner!

Nature's Gate Glow Lotion For Light Skin Tones): As much as I love doing a full application of a regular self tanner, often I just don't have the time or patience. So, a gradual self-tanner is often much easier to use! Nature's Gate Glow Lotion for Light Skin Tones is my go-to everyday gradual tanner. First of all, I love that it is a natural and organic product, because I am slathering it all over my body and absorbing a lot of the product into my system. I just love the subtle color and moisturizing properties of this product! It doesn't dry out my skin like many gradual tanners do. When I first started using it, I thought the results were too subtle. Well, it turns out that is exactly what I like about this product! It is a perfect gradual tanner for super fair girls like me. You really can't even tell after the first day of applying...but, the color does gradually build after a few days to give you a nice light and natural looking color. You can truly use this every day! Just replace your usual body lotion with this and you will end up with a nice light tan in a few days time with no effort!!! I primarily use this on my legs as that is where I really want more color. I absolutely adore this product. It has become my favorite gradual tanner! :)

Jergen's BB Body Skin Perfecting Cream: BB Cream for your body? OMG, yes!!! This BB Body cream is amazing! It absolutely has the ability to subtly perfect your skin and give you a gorgeous glow. It works like a regular moisturizer but it also has the added benefits of skin perfectors! It goes on sheer but does give some subtle color. It gives your skin a lovely sheen which blurs imperfections and leaves your skin just looking lovely. Plus, can I just mention the amazing scent! To my nose, this BB Body Cream smells remarkably similar to Bath & Body Works's Twilight Woods scent. So, if you are a fan of that scent, like I am, then you are going to love the scent of this cream! Now, I have fair skin, however, I like using the Medium to Tan version of this product to get a bit more color than the Fair Skin formula (like I said, the results are subtle, but lovely!). This Jergen's BB Body Skin Perfecting Cream is a staple in my beauty routine for my legs and arms and all exposed skin areas in the Spring and Summer! Plus, the results are subtle enough to make it every day usable!
